The Sacramento Vampire: Richard Trenton Chase
Richard Trenton Chase was probably the most well known vampires of the U.S. He started off by killing animals, and then gradually began to kill people.
The first case was a woman in her home, Terry Wallin, while her husband was at work. She was found gutted with her liver placed under her kidneys, and her intestines lying on the floor. A yogurt cup filled with blood was found with smeared lip marks, like when a woman drinks out of a glass and smears her lipstick on the edge of it.
The second case was an entire family. The father, Daniel J Meredith, was found lying on the floor in the doorway, with a gunshot wound to his head, underneath his left ear. The mother, Evelyn Miroth, was found in the bedroom, a gunshot wound to her right eye, and was gutted in the same way as the first victim. The child, Jason, was found on the floor on the side of the bed, and was shot in the forehead. No other mutilation was done. A crib in the room next to the master bedrrom was empty and spattered with blood. The baby was missing.
The bathtub was filled with water and blood, and blood was smeared all over the sink and floor.
Several neighbors were able to identify a man in an orange parka who had been seen in the neighborhood. A few people came forward saying, " That sounds like Richard. He asked us for a dog, and we gave him one. But, after that we never saw the dog with him again."
They eventually were able to identify Richard, and after putting him into custody, searched the hotel room he was staying in.
A box filled with bloody rags, which matched the babys blood type, and a machete on the table also tested positive for the babys blood.
Three blenders were found caked with blood, and the refrigerator was filled with canine and feline meat.
In an interragation room, he was asked," Did you do it?"
" Yes."
"Why?"
" I did nothing wrong."
" People are dead. Why?"
" I had to kill them to save my life."
" How did killing these people save your life?"
" I needed their blood."
" Why?"
" To replace my own."
" Whats wrong with yours?"
" It's turning to sand."
" When did this start?"
" My mother was poisining me."
" Why?"
" Because i'm Jewish. And the American Nazi party told her that if she didn't kill me, they would kill her."
" What was she using to kill you?"
" Soap dish poison."
" Whats that?"
" The goo in the bottom of the soap dish from the soap lying there. Thats why I started killing animals."
" When did you start killing people?"
" I was bit by a rabbit."
" And that made you angry at people?"
" No. The rabbit had eaten battery acid. The acid got into my blood. My blood was turning to sand."
Weeks later the baby was found in a fast food box underneath the hotels fire escape stairs.
Richard Trenton Chase recieved the death sentence, but never went to the gas chamber. He overdosed on Christmas eve, on pills he had been saving for months.
