The Red Canoe Cafe at the Wilno Station Inn is well-known for its freshly prepared meals served in a bright high-ceilinged room with a lodge-like atmosphere featuring a red canoe theme.
Dramatic wilderness paintings by Linda Sorensen who trained with famous Canadian painter Robert Bateman hang on the deep blue walls. Pine French doors lead to a sunroom back porch with a row of windows looking over the Wilno hills. A handcrafted bar fashioned from a freighter canoe and more original wilderness and landscape art adorn the cedar walls.
A small cheery patio with umbrella shaded tables also overlooks the hills. There is an on site greenhouse, and a vegetable, salad and herb garden which provide fresh ingredients for delicious dishes prepared in creative ways.
Desserts are made in house and have an old fashioned quality....juicy fruit crisps with ice cream....a layered chocolate cake with raspberry filling and various creamy cheesecakes. Price range: inexpensive to moderate. (under 40.00 for dinner for two)
ART, MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT: On-going and special exhibitions by significant area artists, book launches, dinners with Ottawa Valley entertainment, a yearly film festival , an annual fine art auction and performances by renowned Canadian folk artists make us a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
We speak quite a bit of Dutch, some German, passable but minimal French, a small amount of Spanish, an enthusiastic greeting and good morning in Polish, and enjoy meeting travellers from all corners of the world.
We look forward to hosting your holiday in Wilno!
Tom and Joanne
