THE APE LINEAGE & HOW WE ARE ALL RELATED
• No other animals are as close to us at the DNA level, we are 98.4 % identical to chimpanzees and bonobos, we are in the same family grouping as Apes.
• Humans are more closely related to both chimpanzees and gorillas than any are to orangutans.
• However, humans are more closely related to chimpanzees and bonobos than they are to gorillas, as the gorilla line split from ours approximately 2 million years before humans and chimps split.
• Interestingly enough, the bonobo line split from chimpanzees after the human line was already well established.
