Tommy's Fingerboarding X-treme
This is for all you fingerboarders who need to learn how to do fingerboarding tricks:
The direction you should be traveling while performing these tricks listed is from right to left with your right hand. You should only use 2 fingers while riding. Always place your pointer finger on the symbol in the middle, and your middle finger on the tail unless otherwise directed. The following tricks should be practiced in the given order. Specials and Hard tricks are marked with an *, Moderate with a -, and Easy with a +.
1.) Ground Tricks
These tricks can be used to link tricks, and they are the most important tricks to know.
- Ollie: Push hard on the tail with your middle finger and push to the left with both fingers while lifting your hand very very slightly so the board will be at a 90 degree angle. Move your pointer finger from the middle to the nose and keep pushing to the left. Keep practicing untill you reach a desired height of between 1/2 to about 3 or 4 inches, or however high you want it to be!! Make sure you angle your hand so the board will stay in contact with your fingers.
+ Manuals, Nose Manuals, and Side Manuals: To do a Manual, just lift your pointer finger and ride around on the back wheels. To do a Nose Manual, just ride around on the front wheels. For Side manuals, ride around on the side wheels.
+ Switch: Just do a Pop-shuvit, but don't Ollie into it; so your board spins a 180 on the ground.
2.) Flip tricks
+ Kickflips and - Heelflips: Place your middle finger on the tail, the part closest to you. Push down and slightly lift your pointer finger. To do heelflips, place your middle finger under the right bend and flick upward but be carefull not to lose control while performing heelflips. They are a little tricky at first.
+ Pop-shuvits: Set up for a kickflip except with your middle finger on the middle of the tail, and ollie and pull your middle finger towards you and push slightly forward with your pointer finger. The faster you move your finger, the more it will spin. For a normal Pop-shuvit, it should do a 1/2 a spin.
- Hardflips: Set up for a Pop-shuvit but push down super hard on the tail. It looks like a Pop-shuvit and a Kickflip combined.
- 360 flips: Set up for a Pop-shuvit and attempt a angled hardflip but land after one complete spin instead of 1/2 like a Pop-shuvit.
+ Impossible: Just do a reverse hardflip, but ollie with the nose instead.
3.) Grab tricks
To set up for these tricks, do a high ollie off of an object, like a half-pipe or a kicker (ramp) unless otherwise instructed.
+ Nose Grabs: Grab the front of the board with your thumb.
+ Tail Grabs: Grab the tail with your thumb.
+ Board Grabs: Grab anywhere on the board inbetween the trucks with your thumb.
- Truck Grabs & + Double truck Grabs: Grab a truck with your thumb. For a Double truck Grab, use your thumb and index(ring) finger.
- Wheel Grabs: Grab the side of the wheels of one truck with your thumb and index finger.
- Scizzor Grabs: Do a Board Grab, But instead, use both your middle and index finger.
- Razor Grabs & - Vertical Razor Grabs: Grab both sides of the board in-between the trucks with your middle and index fingers . For a Vertical Razor Grab, grab it with the board tilted sideways.
4.) Grind tricks
You MUST Ollie into every one of these tricks.
Board Slides: Ollie and land the board between trucks.
+ Nose Slide & + Tail Slide: Ollie and land on the nose or tail without the truck touching the rail.
+ Nose Grind: Ollie and land on the front trucks.
- 5-0 Grind: Ollie and land on the back trucks.
+ 50-50 Grind: Ollie and land on both trucks.
- K-Grind: 5-0 Grind with the front end sticking outwards.
+ Keg Grinds: Just do a Nose Grind, but hang the back truck off the side of the rail.
- The Rockslide: Same as the Keg Grind, but with the back wheel on instead.
5.) Special Tricks
These are the hardest tricks to learn and perform.
* Darkside Grabs: Do a 1/2 Kickflip to an upside down Board grab, than finish the Kickflip. It is almost impossible to do unless you are on a half-pipe.
*1080 Tail Grab: Do a Pop-shuvit but quickly snap the board so it does 3 full rotations. Then level the board with your pointer finger and grab the tail with your thumb and middle finger. This is extremely hard, but can be done on a half-pipe.
*360 kickflip: Do a 360 Pop-shuvit but quickly tap the tail with your middle finger as you would when doing a kickflip. It is done best when going off a jump, but can be done by Ollie-ing with loads of practice.
* The Darkslide: Do a boardslide, but flip it so you grind on the grip tape.
6.) Extras
+ How to ride verts: It is usefull to do a Pop-shuvit on the edge of the half-pipe. Once you learn that, it makes it easier to do other tricks. If it helps, you can always land the Pop-shuvit with a grab.
-or* Flips to other types of tricks: Practice both the Flip trick, and the Grind or whatever else. If you plan to combine a Flip trick to a Grind, it is very smart to Ollie 7 inches from the object, do your Flip trick, then grind.
- 1 Fingered Grinds: Do an Ollie and land on the nose or tail with one finger. To come out, just put your other finger on and Ollie just before you get to the end of the rail.
* No fingered Grinds: Ollie onto an object, land the desired grind, then push it towards the end of the object. This only works on slippery objects, like a piece of that fake wood crap that people use to make bookshelves.
- Finger Plants: Just Ollie onto an object, and push off it with your index, thumb, or pinky finger.
-or* Flips off objects: Just flip it a bit slower so you have more control.
+ Wall Rides: Turn the board 45 degrees onto a wall. It looks really cool when you do flip tricks off the wall, and it is really easy and fun too!!
Keep coming for all new tricks, updated old ones, and new specials!!
Happy Boarding!!!
