The Truamn Show![]()
Main Feature:
Ahh, this has to be one of the most underrated comedy films ever! Jim Carrey is the lead in this brilliant and spectacularly original movie. Don't know about the film? Well, plagarised from the back cover:
"He's the star of the show - but he doesn't know. Jim Carrey wowed critics and audiences alike as unwitting Truman Burbank in this marvel of a movie about a man whose life is a nonstop TV show. Truman doesn't realise that his quaint hometown is giant studio set run by a visionary producer/director/creator, that folks living are working there are Hollywood actors, that even his incessantly bubbly wife is a contract player. Gradually, Truman gets wise. And what he does about his discovery will have you laughing, crying and cheering like few film stories ever have."
Quite an accurate description there - this film WILL have you laughing, crying and cheering. the last 20 minutes or so will keep your attention so well that you wouldn't notice a Jumbo Jet taking off from your garden. It was possibly THE definitive comedy movie of the '90s; rightfully so. Fans of comedy will love this; fans of drama will love this. It just has everything a film should have. A film that everyone on the planet should see.
Jim Carrey plays the lead well, but co-stars Laura Linney, Noah Emmerich and Ed Harris do great jobs supporting too. The script is excellent throughout - plenty of witty one-liners, as well as subtle jokes and slapstick comeedy, too.
My favourite scenes include one here Truman has apparently gone totally mental, and goes driving like a mad lunatic; an emotional scene when one of the actresses falls in love with him, and tries to tell him the truth; and another quite emotional scene between him and his best friend, Marlon.
A perfect comedy film; one for every household. 10/10
Packaging:
A traditional black snapper case. Holds the disc well. There's a single flyer (a chapter index) inside the case. Nicely presented. 8/10
Audio:
DD 5.1 - ultra-clear sound quality; the music and the dialogue. Well done. 9/10
Video:
A lovely clear picture, no signs of high contrast, grain or edge enhancement. The size is 1.85:1 widescreen anamorphic. Again, good work. 9/10
Price:
Mine was £7 from Play.com. How can you say no?! 9/10
Extras:
A pathetic attempt here; I can only hope one day a Collector's or Special Edition is released. All we get are two lousy, grainy trailers. Damn. 1/10
Overall:
A great film with wonderful AV quality let down by damning extras. 65%
Average:

Family-Friendly Rating:
Guidance, a little mild language and scary moments.
