King Of The Hill: Season One

Main Feature:
Frankly, excellent. King Of the Hill is one of those rare things; a show that is lasting a long on the air as the programme that originally pioneered the idea of the genre - I'm obviously referring to The Simpsons, and the idea of an adult-aimed animated comedy.
The first season of this show is actually probably my favourite of the seven so far; maybe joint with the second. every episode is chock-full of all styles of humour; from subtle to slapstick (mainly the former). These 13 episodes are all great; there's not a dud in them. My favourites, however, are "Keeping Up With Our Joneses", my fave of all-time, in which Bobby is caught by hank trying a cigarette, resulting in Hank and Peggy returning to their old habit after quitting; and "The Order of The Straight Arrow", involving Hank, Bill and Dale tricking their boy scouts into several mind-numbing tasks due to the "Order Of The Straight Arrow". A great collection. 10/10

Audio:
Boggo-standard-o DD 2.0. 6/10

Video:
Pretty good for this kind of animation, no sign or grain or EE. The animation is presented well. 8/10

Price:
I'm in the UK, so I buy from UK-based retailers who stock R1 discs, in this case www.playusa.com. I purchased it for £19.99 (about $35), and as most TV-DVD sets are about £35 here (about $50), it was a great price. 9/10

Extras:
An awesome collection: 3 'serious' commentaries by creators, directors and writers on 3 episodes; and 5 'in-character' commentaries, by the voice actors of Hank, Peggy, Bobby, Dale and Bill in-character. These are particularly funny, and well worth listening to. As well as the 8 commentaries, there are also over 50, yes 50, deleted scenes in total, averaging about 4 an ep; 13 promotional spots totalling about 10 mins or so; a 25-min featurette - very insightful; a "Meet the Hills" gallery - a text and image guide to each character; including sketches, biography and original designs; a music video featuring the KotH stars by the Barenaked Ladies; Disc introductions by a different character on each (3 x 30secs approx.); and finally, around 60 pages of text entitled "The Do's and Don't's of KotH" - 64 rulesa bout the drawing and animation process which must be kept to.
Overall, an excellent set. 10/10

Overall:
A great show on a great disc. Deserves nothing less than a perfect ten. 10/10

Family-Friendly Rating:
I give this Mature Teen rating, due to mild language, moderate sex refs, and mild violence.
