Futurama: Season Four

Main Feature:
As many of you probably know, Futurama was created by Matt Groening, who was also the creator of The Simpsons. With The Simpsons' status as one of the best TV programmes of all-time, Futurama had a lot to live up to; and while it had a strong fanbase, like its predecessor, it just didn't do well enough in its horrific 19:00 slot on FOX, and was cancelled in 2002. The last episode aired in August of this year.
This 4-DVD boxset contains all 18 episodes from the last production season, which aired between January 2002 and August 2003. There's not a dud in sight; every episode offers laughs as big as those from The Simpsons, and for those who prefer sci-fi to comedy - you'll still love Futurama, as it's packed with science-fiction stylee in-jokes.
My personal favourites of the season are the series finale, "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings", in which Fry trys to win Leela's heart by playing the holophoner; "Leela's Homeworld", in which Leela discovers her parents were mutants; and "The Sting", an excellently told story of reality and imagination intertwined. Every episode is great though, no noticeable faults at all. 10/10

Audio:
DD 2.0. hardly special, but good enough. 6/10

Video:
Amazing. Full-frame it may be, but the animation is frankly stunning. Nice, vivid colours and no sign of grain, EE or blur. Excellently done. 10/10

Price:
RRP is £39.99, but no-where has it that expensive; on the high-street get it for around £30-35; on-line think more like £27-30. Good value. 8/10

Extras:
The four discs are packed to the brim with extras!
There are deleted scenes for 16 of the 18 episodes, there's an Audio Commentary on EVERY episode, 2 galleries of still pictures, a 25-minute animatic for "Obsolutely Fabulous", 4 trailers, 9 pencil test segments, a How-To-Draw The Characters feature, 11 3D models from Rough Draft explained, and even more! A very complete set of extras. 10/10

Overall:
One of the best sets of any kind released this year; and the best Futurama DVD set of the four too. A necessity for any fan; hardcore or otherwise. 10/10

Family-Friendly Rating:
Teen due to mild language and some moderate sex references.
