The Wet Cell Rediscovered
By Deborah Seymour Taylor
Part 2
David McMillin and Dr. Douglas Richards, meanwhile, are trying to resolve the baffling questions about the design and effectiveness of the different models.
"There is much that still remains unknown," says McMillin, a mental health professional in Virginia Beach, and author of several books concerning Cayce's recommendations on mental health. "There are no standards and no quality assurance. We are conducting direct empirical research to find answers to the discrepancies among the various wet cells, wet cell solutions, and charge kits. Think of it as a kind of Consumer Reports." McMillin and Richards, who is the former research director for Atlantic University and now teaches at A.U. and at Tidewater Community College, are working with a group of people who made their own wet cells. They are measuring the results from different designs, which may be the first methodical research on the device ever performed. Using computers to analyze their data, the research team, independent of the A.R.E., is seeking answers that may even help validate Cayce's claims for the device. "We are looking to find what variations cause differences in the current output and the effect on the body. In particular, we want to help raise awareness that the public needs to be informed consumers," McMillin said. "It's important to keep in mind that Cayce said that the appliance was in evolution. In one case he specifically stated, 'It is only by application and experience that any developments may be gained regarding any such instrument.' [Reading 1800-321] In fact, there were several cases where he warned that not enough research and experimentation had yet been done on the appliance. Using the scientific method, we are simply working to isolate the different factors that are controversial, and what effect occurs when these factors are changed."
McMillin and Richards are experimenting with different pole lengths and different solutions. "We are also measuring the differences in current with the types of charge kits that are available today. There seems to be a lot of discrepancy in those being produced."
McMillin hopes to have preliminary findings in a few months. "Our purpose in doing this research is to inspire more of a sense of cooperation and communication in a constructive way among manufacturers," McMillin said. "It's not good that people are working in isolation. In a collegial relationship, you can ask questions--that is the way it should be in the healing arts. When people are working alone, they can easily get their own ideas that miss the mark. And, there is no reality check from others that can help to identify honest mistakes." More important than settling the controversy, adds McMillin, is this: "Cayce said [reading 1800-281] that each and every soul that touched the appliances in any form should dedicate their lives to the service of humanity. And those who weren't willing to do so, should give it up."
The implications of this sudden surge of interest in the wet cell, and reports from more people who have been helped in a major way by this obscure device, is inspiring. But then, Cayce always was a master at healing people who took his advice seriously.

David McMillin's research group meets regularly to discuss details of the construction, use, and effectiveness of the wet cell as produced by various manufacturers.
