Did you know.....

The hottest temperature ever reported was 134 degrees Farenheit in Death Valley, California.

The coldest temperature ever reported was -80 degrees Farenheit in Prospect Creek Camp, Alaska

The most rainfall in one month was 460 inches in Kukui, Hawaii

The most snowfall reported in one month was 390 inches in Tamarack, California

The most days without rainfall was Bagdad, California who went for 767 days without rain

The average windspeed on Mount Washington, New Hampshire is 35.3 m.p.h.  The highest wind ever recorded there was 231 m.p.h. 

Several times in this century the part of Niagara Falls called American Falls has frozen solid.  People could walk across it.

Lightning moves down to earth at 60,000 feet per second (96,000 kilometers per hour).

In 1974 a tornado in Ohio knocked down a farmhouse.  Everything inside was broken - beds, chairs, tables.  Only three things were not broken- a mirror, a case of eggs, and a box of Christmas tree ornaments!

Lightning really can strike the same place twice.  The Empire State building is hit about 40 times per year.

The biggest snowflakes that ever fell from the sky were 15 inches wide- as wide as dinner plates!  This happened in Montana in 1887.

The wettest place in the US is Mt. Waialeale, Hawaii. About 460 inches of rain fall there each year.

Death Valley, California is the driest place in the US. Less than 2 inches of rain fall their each year.

The bigger the raindrop, the faster it falls. A large raindrop may fall 30 feet in one second.

Some rain clouds are more than 10 miles tall. They are full of water droplets and bring heavy rain.

You may have seen a rainbow, but have you ever seen a moonbow? Once in a while, an arc of colors can be seen near the moon after a rain shower.
