If you do look inside the washing machine, always disconnect the power completely rather than just switching it off at the switch as there may be an error in the house wiring that means that the live side of the supply is still running through the washing machine!

If you have fitted the carbon brushes but the motor still doesn't work There's always the possibility you misdiagnosed the fault and either other parts of the motor are also faulty or the fault is caused by something else. However, make sure the wires are properly connected to the brush holders and the motor.
Sometimes brushes may work for several washes but the motor packs in again. Take the brushes back out and make sure one or both haven't stuck inside their holders. This can happen if you didn't release the small brass lug properly. The brush should be able to be pressed all the way in and spring straight back out when you let go.
Research the Washerhelp forum under the Hotpoint & Creda section. Try searching for "carbon brushes". You may find a solution there. Try searching also for TOC. The TOC (thermal overload cut-out) may have blown. You will need a continuity test meter to test for this.
I fitted the carbon brushes but the motor is sparking a lot
A small amount of sparking is normal. Little minute sparks will occur until the carbon brushes bed in properly. However, if there is a lot of sparking, particularly if it is flashing or arcing round the commutator then the repair is no good.

Excessive sparking when the brushes are fitted properly is usually due to wear on the main part of the motor - the armature and you should see wear or damage on the armature. GO INTO GALLERY FOR INFO
NOTE: The "P" at the end of the model number indicates the colour (Polar white) Therefore the exact same model number (WD64) with a different letter at the end is the same washing machine in a different colour
