The Philosophy of need
Many people in this society go through life seeking their wants. They go for more money, more car, more everything than they'll ever possibly need. They survive on their desires, not looking far enough or deep enough to see that they are abandoning their true needs. In the Bible it is written that man must not live on bread alone. Mere survival is a stage of life that most people in the world, or in developed countries at least have passed up. There is no need to live foot to mouth any longer. But there is also no need to build up huge excesses, when in truth there is enough for everyone. But it is want that keeps people starving. The desire for power keeps some places from getting as much as others (afterall its resources that give us power). The desire for security keeps with hords of money and resources far more than they need or deserve. People have abandoned community for their workplace, so that in their lives the needs that they fulfill in community are lost to the wants that are fulfilled through the workplace. People as a whole have abandoned the need for self betterment and started pursuing efforts of vanity. There is no past society as vain as ours. They all considered themselves under the control of some being more powerful than themselves. Now they consider themselves high enough that they either deny or passify the force of God (or the Devil) within themselves or they barter with it, trying to exchange one want for what they percieve as God's wants. Who in todays world is subservient to a higher force than themselves. Who thinks that God can act without first considering them. We have institutions that can serve high purposes and we have destroyed their meaning and made them something cheap. Colleges for some have been turned from a place of self-betterment and learning to a place of job training and desire establishment. Businesses have been turned from a vehicle of hard-work and perserverance to a place of money grubbing and impatience. We worry too much about our wants, about where we position ourselves. We have a soul. We have a mind. We have a body. This is the order of things first soul, then mind and body. We are wandering through darkness, but we must not pay heed to it, for in darkness we can find our inner light. We can pass up the superficial things and live on a deeper plane cultivating and nurturing ourselves and the world around it rather than demanding and demanding wearing ourselves thin while our bodies and our wallets thicken. We don't need to fulfill ego. We don't need science to display how far we've gone as a species and how far we are willing to go to fill our wants. Desire breeds desire, there is no hope for it. We know what is needed and we have abandoned it. Abandon Ego and serve as a servant. We know what is needed and we know how to serve it, but the question is 'Are we willing?'
