In 1982 The Cure broke up for the first time after heavy touring for their fourth studio album, "Pornography". The remenents of Joy Division reformed under the moniker of "New Order" after Ian Curtis hung himself in his parents home. The Ramones were all still alive and nobody, as of yet, had ever heard of Bauhaus. In 1982 Kip and Peggy Curtis opened a retail clothing store on NW 23rd St. in Oklahoma City soon to be known as "Vintage Plus". I was eight years old.
I bought my first Cure shirt there when I was 16 back in 1990. It was the only store where you could buy that kind of stuff in back then. As the malls and the internet slowly started to creep into the alternative scene, the Vintage remained a true source for underground apparel. It seemed like it would last forever and withstand anything, but alas it was kept alive by mere mortals who, unfortunatly, could not last forever themselves. After 23 years in business, Kip and Peggy were going to close its doors. We could not let this happen. We have seen so many beautiful things come and go in OKC and we didn't want this to be one of them, so my wife, Michele, and I bought it. Kip, Peggy, Michele and I are all VERY excited to see the Vintage live on and we hope you will all still support our great little alternative clothing store.
We plan to keep most of the cool items the Vintage is known for in stock like hundreds of alternative band shirts, bags, jewelry, cigarrette cases and holders, stickers, patches, coats, belts and hats. Our shoe selection will be limited at first, but we have some really cool lines coming our way.
We are also carrying and bringing in some really cool new stuff like scooter/Mod wear, rockabilly threads, and some original store only designed shirts. We want to support the local band scene as well, so if you are in a band and would like to see your shirts on our racks, please bring them by. Hit the Vintage Plus News page to see what's new and please use our links to check out some other really cool local shops. Sign our guestbook, or use the contact button to send us some comments, or suggestions.
In 2005 The Cure re-released "Pornography" and broke up again. New Order released their 8th studio album. The Ramones have unfortunatly left us and Bauhaus headlined Coachella. In 2005 (on Friday the 13th) Michele and I (Matthew) started the next chapter in the legendary Vintage Plus. We look forward to seeing all of the old friends and making some new ones. We'll see you there!
