Louisiana Writer Recognized in International Contest
Vanessa A. Johnson to be published in Book About Faith
February 3, 2003- Vanessa A. Johnson, a writer from Ama was given an Honorable Mention for her entry in the 2002 Obadiah Press Writing Contest in January. The contest, sponsored by Obadiah Press, a Christian publishing house located in Merrill, Wisconsin, drew entries from throughout the United States and even abroad.
Johnson’s entry entitled “When A Terrible Illness Strikes,” was selected for inclusion in a book entitled Living By Faith to be published by Obadiah Press later this year.
“The theme of this year’s contest was ‘faith,’” says Tina L. Miller, Editor in Chief at Obadiah Press. “And we received a lot of really great essays. It was very difficult to determine which stories would go into the book.”
Johnson is the 911 Communications Supervisor for St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the mother of three. She and her husband live in Ama. In addition to this piece, Johnson has five (5) letters that have been accepted for publication in the Celebrations Anthology that is slated for publication later this year and a poem, “What Foods Would Have Made You Grow,” that will be included in a book Anthology for “Down The Cereal Aisle.” In addition, Johnson has penned her first non-fiction book, “When Death Comes A Knockin’,” that deals with the loss of a love one through death and the grief process, that is in the review process, hoping to get published by Publish America as of this writing.
Johnson is excited to be among the writers whose work was selected for publication in the upcoming anthology. “My prayer is that through my writing, I hope to Enlighten, Inspire and Encourage the reader,” Johnson says. More of Johnson’s work can be reviewed at her web site at: www.webspawner.com/users/veejay/index.html or on her author page at www.authorsden.com.
Johnson is excited to be among the writers whose work was selected for publication in the upcoming anthology. “This story was really difficult to write because it is so personal, so it is a real honor that it was selected for inclusion in the book,” Johnson said.
Living By Faith will include the top entries from the contest and should be available in print by Christmas. Readers can reserve their copy directly through the publisher by calling toll free 1-866-536-3167.
