Kobe Bryant son of former NBA player Joe "jellybean" Bryant'jumped to the pros in 1996 and enjoyed an impressive rookie season with the L.A. Lakers. Bryant was an all time leading scorer in Southern Pennsylvania historywith 2,883 points, breaking the marks of NBA Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain (2,359 points)and former St. Joseph's player Carlin Warley (2,441 points). He also won Nestle Crunch Slam Dunk and was leading scorer in Schick Rookie game durring 1997 NBA All-Star Weekend. Then, in his second season, he was voted a starter for the 1998 All-Star Game, becoming, at 19, the youngest All-Star in NBA history.

In 1992, Shaquille O'Neal was selected as the first pick in the NBA draft. The 20-year-old rookie established himself immediatly winning NBA Player of the Week honors for his first week in the league. He was the youngest participant ever in the NBA All-Star Game and was named 1993 NBA Rookie of the Year. He won his first scoring title in 1994-95, averaging 29.3 points while leading the Magic to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Folling the 1994-95 campaign, O'neal was named to the 1996 Dream Team, which wuold win gold at the 1996 Olympics. At the end of the 1995-96 season, he became a free agent and signed with the L.A. Lakers, leading them to a division title in 1997-98.

After two outstanding seasons at Georgetown, Allen Iverson was the first player picked in the 1996 NBA Draft. He did not disapoint in his first year, winning Rookie of the Year honors by a decisive margin. He was the First team All-American by the Associated Press as sophomore, started 66 of 67 career games, and led Geogrtown in for his entire time there. Iverson lived up in expectations in his first NBA season, leading the Sixers with 23.5 points,7.5 assists ansd 2.07 steals per game, ranking seventh in the NBa in steals. Iverson came back with a strong second season, leading the Sixers with 22.0 points, 6.2 assists and 2.20 steals in 39.4 minutes per game. He ranked eight in scoring,16 in assists, fifth in steals and 11th in minutes.
