ghost story 6

This next story takes us to when my wife was carrying our third child. She had suffered a miscarraige the year before, but this pregnancy had gone well. Our children were, by this time, seven and four and we were eagerly looking forward to the birth of our first son. Karen was overdue by six days and was feeling a bit fed up.
This particular day had started out well, we were up bright and early and had decided to go shopping, to make sure we had enough groceries in should the baby arrive. On the way, however our younger daughter had an accident. She was happily running down the street, when all of a sudden she tripped on a flagstone. The sound of her head hitting the floor was sickening, and we ran over to her to see if she was ok. When she stood up we could clearly see she was shaken, she was very pale and was going dizzy. When she started to vomit we knew we had to get her checked out. We took her up to the hospital, where it was found she had concussion. She was admitted overnight and it was decided that Karen would stay with her and I would go home.
That night I didn't go to bed, I felt very uneasy, and didn't want to go upstairs in case the phone rang and I didn't hear it. I was lay on the settee, when the living room door opened, I could hear muffled footsteps, like that of an elderly person, shuffling across the carpet. I couldn't see anyone, but the footsteps carried on into the kitchen and across the kitchen floor. It sounded like the person had slippers on. About the time they would have reached the sink the footsteps stopped.
I looked at the time and it was three o clock in the morning, it might sound funny but I wasn't scared, I just knew that the person had come to tell me something. I made myself a cup of tea and sat back to wait.
Sure enough, at four o clock, the phone rang, Karen had gone into labour, After getting someone to mind our other daughter, I made my way up to the hospital, where two hours later, at quarter past six our son was born. Karen told me that it had all started at three o clock - the exact time that I had my visit.
