ghost story 5

MOVING

After nearly three years of marriage we decided to move house. We now had two children to care for, one aged three and one aged ten months. As well as the bad atmosphere, which Karen was still feeling, we had suffered two major bereavements while we were living in our first home and it held some bad memories for us. All in all we were glad to be able to make a fresh start - We should have known it wouldn't be that easy!
We settled into our new home quite well, but it wasn't long before it became obvious that once again we were not alone. Our baby daughter didn't sleep very well and used to wake up through the night for a bottle of milk. This happened one particular night, and Karen had to go down for some milk. She felt uneasy even before she opened the living room door, the hairs on the back of her neck were standing on end all the way down the stairs.
When she opened the door, before she even got a chance to turn on the light, she saw the figure of an old lady stood behind the settee. She seemed in no hurry to disappear, and was just looking towards the fire as if in a dream. Karen stood for a few seconds, hardly believing what she was seeing, before she turned round and came running back up the stairs to me. She insisted I went down to check it out, but by this time the living room was empty.
Although, seeing a ghost is always a little scary when it happens out of the blue like that, we didn't feel that this old lady meant us any harm, this house didn't feel unwelcoming like the last one did, it was the start of many ecounters in that house which not only intrigued us but friends and relatives too.
