General Information
===================
The Alliance list has been in existence since 1999, when it was founded during the weekend of a Pacifica National Board meeting in Houston.The purpose of the list is to promote dialogue between members of thePacifica community, especially between members in different signal areas.
I would like to see the list be a place for brainstorming, strategizing,
and resolution of sticky issues, and not simply for distributing
information to the Pacifica community at large. There are other lists
that already handle that task.
There are currently 130+ list members. Large distribution and discussionlists for Pacifica issues already exist. This list consists of a smallergroup of individuals who wish to engage in dialogue without the flame warscommon on other lists, and who therefore have agreed to refrain from adhominem attacks. By joining this list you indicate your agreement to dolikewise.
We all get a lot of email! Your contributions will be most welcome if they remain succinct, on-topic and relevant! Note that this is a nationallist, so not everyone has the time or the background to understand theminutiae of local issues.
Please set your email client to display your real name in the "From" or"Reply-to" field, especially if you have an email address that does notidentify you. If that is a problem for you, at least sign your real namein the body of your messages.
Subscription to this list is not open; however you are free to request theaddition of individuals that you can personally vouch for, i.e. people whowill engage in constructive dialogue without resorting to ad hominemattacks. Normally, they will simply be added. However, any member mayblock the addition of a new member provided he or she has reason tobelieve the person is unlikely to keep list agreements. Personal animusand political antagonism are explicitly *not* valid reasons for blockingsomeone. The list administrator is the final arbiter regarding whether areason is valid or not.
Members who make personal attacks, engage in flame wars, etc. will bewarned once and, if behavior reoccurs, removed from the list.
Posting, Cross-posting, Re-posting

Please don't automatically post messages that appear on other lists --
unless they are really crucial! We already subscribe to the lists we
want to subscribe to.
Please don't cross-post to the alliance list and other lists.
DO NOT post Alliance messages to other lists, or transmit them to
any individual without checking first with the list and the author.
NB: Despite the request not to re-post messages, it sometimes happensanyway, so don't be too surprised if messages you post to this list turnup on other lists.
Reviewing list members
======================
The current configuration is that any _member_ may review the list'smembership at any time by sending a message to
alliance-request@lists.freespeechnow.org with just the phrase "reviewnames" in the subject line (or body).
People who are not list members cannot obtain any information aboutmembers.
I hope I don't have to mention that forwarding the list to a non-member orusing it for commercial purposes would not be appreciated.
Moderation
==========
There is none. What you address to the list is instantly distributed to
all list members.
Archives
========
There is an http interface to the list, which you can reach by accessinghttp://lists.freespeechnow.org/
in your web browser and clicking on "Pacifica."
From there click on "alliance". You will need your password to enter --most of you got signed up automatically and didn't receive a password, sojust enter your email address at the bottom of the page and it will be
sent to you.

There is also a MarinCoalition mailing list available at the same site.
That has an open subscription policy. It is used for communication
between the North Bay, East Bay (CdP) and Marin groups that have beenmeeting in Marin County. Please feel free to sign up if you're not
already on it!
