EMPYRE TURNS THREE
Here's what we've been up to...
August, 2006 - New York International Fringe Festival production of TROUBLE IN SHAMELAND starring Broadway veteran Florence Lacey of Evita fame as Virginia. This production was produced by EMPYRE in association with Jeff Landsman and played Off-Broadway at the wonderful Actor's Playhouse in Manhattan.
April / May, 2006 - THE TOYMAKER received a staged reading at the Historic Bouwerie Lane Theatre in Manhattan's East Village. Empyre found a wonderful collaborator in Musical Director Kenneth Gartman (Welcome aboard Kenneth), who went on to receive wonderful accolades for his musical direction of the aforementioned FringeNYC SHAMELAND.
December, 2005 - We were honored to recieve a staged reading produced by and appearing at the York Theatre, Off-Broadway, with an amazing cast that included such wonderful performers as Mandy Bruno (of Guiding Light fame) and Diane Findlay (of the recent Producers movie). Directed by Stephen Nachamie. Musical Direction by Jason Loffredo and starring Broadway's Ric Ryder as Michael. This production was part of the York's amazing Developmental Reading Series.
September, 2005 - Prior to our relocation to the Big Apple, we produced our own staged reading of THE TOYMAKER in Wilmington, NC at City Stage Theatre, to critical and public acclaim. Boasting many of the areas top voices (Melissa Garno, Lynn O'Connell, Michelle Reiff, Troy Rudeseal and Zack Simcoe), we presented a workshopped, semi-staged production of the work in progress. Gathering feedback from this audience of theatre professionals, writers and patrons, we were able to start shaping what would soon become the New York production on the Bouwerie Lane stage.
March, 2005 - TROUBLE IN SHAMELAND received the honor of being one of 36 shows chosen as finalists in the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival's NEXT LINK SERIES of new musicals. More than 400 scripts and scores were received from around the world.
October 2004 - We were REMARKABLY PROUD to present our first FULL THEATRICAL PRODUCTION on the Main Stage of Historic Thalian Hall in Wilmington NC. TROUBLE IN SHAMELAND saw it's World Premiere in an unprecidented event in the theatres history. With critical and public acclaim, SHAMELAND began the journey that has landed us here in the Big Apple, following the piece as it takes on a life of its own.
August, 2004 - Our First Official Production came in the form of a benefit performance for the Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons, GODDESS NIGHT. With a five year history as the major fund raiser for this organization, EMPYRE took over production from Lynn O'Connell and Melissa Garno in a production directed by Bryan Putnam and presented at City Stage Theatre in August of 2004.
For a VERY SPECIAL Thank You to all who have helped us to realize this Dream
