2011Tax Rates
The town boasts excellent water quality that has received a 100% rating from the Department of Environment on all tested parameters for the past 7 years in a row. The water is tested twice daily for chlorine content and chlorine is maintained at the minimum level permitted by law.
The town council also provides sewer and garbage collection. Large household items that need to be disposed of are taken to the regional waste disposal site once a year during cleanup week and there is no charge to the residents. The town council also provides snowclearing services by means of a contract with "Works Services and Transportation".
The tax rates for 2011 are as follows:
Poll Tax: $200.00 per year
Sewer Only: $120.00 per year
Unoccupied Property (Water and Sewer) $120.00 per year
Water and Sewer $240.00 per year
Property Tax 8 mills or minimum $200.00 per year
Business Tax 1/5 of 1% of gross sales, minimum $200.00 per year
Business Garbage Collection $200.00 per year
Building Permit Commercial: $100.00
Building Permit (New Home Construction) $50.00
Building Permit (Shed Construction)$25.00
Permit to Repair $10.00
Harbour Authority $500.00 per year
Disconnect/Reconnect For Tax Arrears $50.00
All taxes are due by June 30, 2011. Arrears Interest may be charged at a rate of 2.5% per month on any 2011 taxes not paid by that date.
