Will it really work? You tell me...

September, 2008

What's a dollar? Well, that's what I'm asking you? I saw this idea on a television show where a woman basically asked that everyone that visit her website would offer $1 to her, which she promised to use honestly to help her reduce an overwhelming debt she had buried herself in. At first I thought it seemed crazy, but then I thought about it. Maybe it can work.

So here's the deal... ..this is why I'm trying this out.

My name is Steve. I'm in my early 30's and have 2 sons and a wonderful wife. When my firstborn entered life I new I had a lot of responsibilities ahead. The problem was that I had already run away from a lot of responsibilities.

As a freshmen in college the world of credit was more than happy to let me run up the balance of every and any credit card I could get. Back then I didn't know, and even worse, care about a credit rating or credit report. I let things go so long I honestly figured the creditor had given up trying to get their money. Boy was I wrong!

The same year I got married and had my first son everybody I owed money found me and demanded it all. Overwhelmed I made the biggest mistake, bigger than any before. Creditors and other companies offered me credit cards with limits equal to the balances I owed. They offered to let me pay off my debts as if they were credit cards. Their suggestions where that it would look good to future creditors and help repair my credit report. WHAT A CROCK! All the time they were charging impossible interest rates, annual fees, one-time account setup fees. I paid a good $2000.00 just to get things started. Only to be buried again when the cost of taking care of my new family outweighed my paycheck and I fell behind again. This time however the credit cards got nasty... ..adding late fees, over-the-limit fees and anything else. The total "minimum payment due" was well more than my rent within the first 3 months.

Well, now you probably want to know why any of this matters...

..here it is. It's been over 10 years now, I've finished paying off debt consolidation for 4 months now and am making minimal progress toward those bills still out there.

Since the birth of my first son I have worked some crappy jobs, stayed with them far too long with the hope of the elusive raise or promotion. I've served in the Army and been to Kuwait and Iraq in 2003. Come home to job trying a truck and laid off for christmas, 2006, less then a month after doctors found four, YES (4), tumors in my back.

Here I am now, (2) years later. Back to work with a decent company, and living with the doctors telling me those tumors are nothing to worry about. So this is what I am asking. Can you spare a dollar? I have just about $9,000 tied up now in debt. If I can just pay half of that off then "maybe" my wife and I can build somekind of future for ourself and our children.
Your GIFT can help our family get back on track much faster than anyway I have even thought was possible.

Thank you,
Steve
