DISCOVER CANOEING THE OLD FASHION WAY:
Around 1870 the wood and canvas canoe was developed in central Maine, based on the Penobscot Indian's brich bark canoe. Since this time many people and company have built canoe, the best known being Old Town Canoe Co.
In 1983 Istarted learning how to build and restore another well-known canoe "the Grand Laker",with my father. My father has been building and restoring canoe for 17 years.
About two years ago I started building and restoring on my own. I started with a 16 footer wood and fiberglass and have build since two more. This past winter I built a 19 foot wood-canvas which is great for the lakes as well as the fast water As a Registed Maine Guide I spend alot of time in a canoe and enjoy the tradition as well as the beauty of them.
I do not keep an inventory. I perfer to do custom orders My main building time is from Dec. to May, but I will take orders anytime.
Maybe you have an canoe in the back shed at been a home a spider since the last time you took it out ten years ago. Bring it by and I'll look it over and tell you what it needs and what it should have.
