The No. 1 fear people have is public speaking.

That's why so many join a Toastmasters club. If you'd like to visit one this Wednesday at noon try the centrally-located Richardson Noon Toastmasters club that meets at noon each Wednesday. Jump to http://www.etoastmasters.org/

Our RICHARDSON NOON TOASTMASTERS CLUB (started in 1968) was called on by TGI Fridays, MCI, Blue Cross, Blue Shield and Southwest Airlines when those companies wanted to start Toastmasters clubs.

In 1997, we were called on to host the District 50 Fall Conference for Toastmasters International and had one of the most fun, entertaining and educational conferences yet. In 1998, we were asked back to host the District 50 Table Topics contest at that conference. In the spring of 1999, our club put on another District 50 Conference.

Our club has experienced people who are willing to help and work with newcomers to Toastmasters.

There are many other clubs in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Some of them are run by our former members. We looked around and found our former members serving as club presidents of Toastmasters clubs at MCI, Ericsson, JC Penney, Plano Talkers, Dallas Singles, Park Central Toastmasters, Roving 49ers and a few others. Ask them why they left our club and each will tell you that their new jobs and promotions made driving back across town from their new company too difficult during the lunch hour. They may not have an extra 20 minutes to spend in traffic, but they stayed with Toastmasters after getting a positive start with our club. They even went on to become club presidents, area governors and district officers who still enjoy coming back when time permits to their original club: Richardson Noon Toastmasters.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

NORTHERN DIVISION LEADERBOARD
Brian Bearden. Northern Division Governor.
President's Distinguished Division award.
During his term as president of Richardson Noon Toastmasters the club had 46 members, produced 16 CTMs, 3 ATMs, 1 ATM-Silver and 1 DTM. Club members also won the area, division and made finalist in the District speech, table topics and evaluation contests. It was a remarkable time for all.

NORTHERN DIVISION TOTAL - 70 total CTMs through end of May 1997.
The division goal set 12 months ago was just 60 CTMs. That was considered high by the District 50 leadership at the time. The district goal was just 40 per division.

CLUB MEMBER JIM CHANDLER (ATM) ON SUPPORTIVE EVALUATIONS
(Paraphrased from his seminar on how to do evaluations).
1. Every evaluation should prepare the speaker for the next speech.
2. ... should give three positive points the speaker made.
3. ... should give the speaker three areas of improvement, if necessary.
4. The evaluator should have fun with the evaluation.
5. Don't whitewash it.
6. An evaluation is a speech by the evaluator and a speaking opportunity. You should make the most of your speaking time.
Jim Chandler has won the District evaluation contest three times and won numerous club, area and division contests.

Jim Chandler on "Introducing a speaker"
"As a Toastmaster, you should tell the audience at least three things about the speaker. Who the speaker is. Where the speaker works. Something interesting about the speaker. What the speaker is trying to accomplish with the speech. Why this speaker is important to hear. We should also know what the manual is and what the speech number is. If we know that, we can judge the speech better. There is no room for being casual about introductions. These introductions should be done to acquaint new people in the audience with the speaker and build a bridge for that speech. We should treat the introductions as if we were practicing for the real thing.''
