SOUTHEND PARKS BOWLS CIRCLE NEWS
At the AGM in November, there were no real big decisions taken, the only change in the rules being in the Beharell Shield where a slight modification in the format for the competition now allows matches to be staged over 18 or 21 ends
Those clubs who can put out teams of fours will now be able to do so when they play against similar opposition, and play 21 ends.
However when they play against teams who can only field triples then they will do likewise, and play only 18 ends.
Clubs will have to state their intentions before the start of the season, so that there is no confusion as to the playing format.
It was felt that those clubs who have big memberships will be able to give more of their players a game At the moment it looks like six of the teams will field fours. while the other two will play triples.
As expected Chalkwell will only be playing in the Parren Shield, as there membership is still very small.
I am very sad to report the loss of two members of the White Hall club in 2007.
George Thacker who was a very popular member of the Clatterfield Gardens club passed away just before Christmas, while the wife of former White Hall President Peter Whatling, Maggie Whatling died on December 28th.
There was a big turnout for both members for their funerals at Sutton Crematorium.
A further blow to white Hall is the news that Alf Lowery will be taking his very considerable bowling skills to Woodside in 2008.
All in all, not a good start for a club who have had their share of problems in the past.
