The Vida's Africa Site
Hello and welcome to the Vida's Africa Website.
We went to Kenya and South Africa in October of 1998. We had alot of fun we had to spend a ton of time flying though. First we went to England for a few day stop over. Everything there is very expensive. We had fun eating at all the different pubs!! We went inside Buckingham Palace, to the Tower of London etc. We recovered from jet-lag fairly quickly.
We then went on a 8 hour flight to Nairobi Kenya. We were just about to land at Nairobi International airport when we made an extreamly sharp right turn!!! The pilot came on the intercom saying, " Sorry about that rather sharp right turn-they didn't have the gates open." "O.K.",we thought we'll just try this again...We start our decent...and sundenly we pull back up again. "Sorry about that," the pilot states over the intercom," they didn't have the landing lights on" Now we were starting to get scared! At our 3rd attemp we landed, safley at Nairobi internation Airport.
We collected our luggage. We met my mother's good friend Jean and her husband Angus, at the airport. They drove us to their lovely home in Nairobi. We met their children, Alan and Craig and their 3 dogs. Their house is beautiful and big. Their garden is amazing...many different types of plants and flowers. They have many banana trees and most surprising to me...bamboo. it get's dark in Kenya early. before I went to bed I spotted 2 full grown geckos outside on the wall of the house. Inside i saw a baby gecko that wasless than 1 inch long. In the Murray's house there are many barred gates to keep them safe. (and us) They have 2 maids (only 1 is there at a time) Felicity and Milka, they have 2 guards (1 there all the time) and a gradener. We found them all very nice.
The next morning Angus' driver drove us to a basket shop. Julie got 3 purses-2 small one big. We then went to an outdoor market. There we learned the hard way how ot barder.
