In 1997, Jack opened up the first "One Eyed Jack's Tattoos, with his protege', Patti Jo, in Safford, Arizona.
When time rolled around for Hollywood Inkslingers Ball, he went, as he always does, and took Patti Jo along to help him work in his booth. On Saturday and Sunday, they hold a competition, called Tattoo of the Day, where judges vote on the best tattoo done at the convention, on that day, in a specified time period.
He got the idea to have Patti Jo do the famous portrait she drew of him in 1993, on the day they met, on his back for the competition.
This is a photograph of Patti Jo doing, the first of what would become 17 portraits on Jack's back, on that Saturday. The tattoo was executed in the allotted timeframe, and proceeded to win TATTOO OF THE DAY.
Well...this got Jack hooked again, after more than 50 years of not getting tattooed...and, the rest, as they say...is history!
