Latin Jazz group Tambo Jazz & Salsa Band was funded by Roberto Pitre in 1999. It features some of the best Latin players on the New York scene.
Pitre's goal for the group is to forge a new fusion sound that brings a vitality and freshness to Latin Jazz, combining panamanian, puerto rican, cuban, bazilian & indian music in amazing arrangements and creative compositions. Tambo Jazz represent the new generation groups on The New York Latin Jazz Scene.

ROBERTO PITRE

Pitre's musical life begun at an early age with classical training in piano and musical theory at the Panama Conservatory. He taught himself Tolou flute and Latin percussion and played in school bands, Folk, Charanga and Salsa music groups before enrolling at the National Conservatory. As the best student in his graduating class of 1978, Pitre was awarded a fellowship to study classical music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. While there, he absorbed Brazilian Jazz and Folk music, which influenced the harmonic creativity and unique rhythm of his arrangements and compositions.
He has gigged Jazz with Victor Boa, John Benitez, Igor Atalita, Edsel Gomez, Hector Martignon, Jeff Gardner, Danilo Perez and Mauricio Smith. He has also been playing MPB with Chiquinho de Moraes, Norato, Joao Donato, Raul de Souza, Vanderlea, Jair Rodrigues, Cauby Peixoto as well as Salsa with Edwin Pitre, Andy Gonzalez, Nelson Gonzalez, Milagros Lanty, Celia Cruz, Alexis Castillo, Jeff Gardner, Chirino, Piloto and has begun touring and recording under his own name.
Roberto Pitre's Tambo Jazz brings together Panamanian Folk music, Brazilian harmonies, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, American Jazz and Oriental influences.

Prof. Roberto Pitre
enjoys a world wide reputation
as a performer and professor,
with wide ranging experience as an soloist,
orchestral musician, recitalits and Chamber musician.

Born in Panama, Roberto Pitre studied flute with Eduardo Charpentier (in Panama Conservatory) also with Mainard Niedermayer(Viennese School), Norton Morozowicz pupil of Aurele Nicolet and Celso Woltzenlogel pupil of Jean Pierre Rampal and graduated with a bachelor's degreea in music (flute). He also has post-graduate courses in Composition, Analysis, Ethnomusicology & Master in Music at UFRJ, UPS, UNESP in Brazil.

Roberto Pitre perform regulary in North, Central, & South America. His repertoire is large and embraces various styles, from the Renascence to Contemporary music.
He has premiered new compositions some of them written specially for him. He has founded various ensembles, as Canal Zone Woodwind quartet, Roque Cordero Quintet, Khulau flute quartet, Damase trio, Villalobos Bachianas duos, Mozart flute quratets, and he still playing with sort of Chamber Music ensembles.
He was principal flute of Panama National Symphony Orchestra and former Chairman of the Music Department of Panama University.

Roberto Pitre won first prize for the "Nicole-Cuvellier" award in the "Latin-America Flute Competition." 1990 promoted by Jeunnise Musicale Internatinal Contests from Belgium.

Many of his students from different coutries have participate in his Master classes & work shops around the world. A number every day bigger of his pupils have been a prestigious career and improving their academic studies.
