Computer Technology In the Classroom

One of the current major challenges in education is anticipating how the intergration of technology will change classroom instruction and student learning.

What is a computer? A computer is an automatic machine that can store, retrieve, and process data. What is technology? Technology is a technical method of achieving a practical purpose. When these are combined we have computer technology. Computers and technology have come along way since the 1980s. Computer technology in the classroom has increased and advanced in so many ways.

The presence of technology complicates teachers jobs enormously. They are learning how to use the technology, how to teach differently, how to relate it in new ways to their students, and how to assume new rolls as teachers, researchers, and equipment technicians. The student is an active constructor of knowledge, who uses the computer as a tool to solve problems. The potential of technology to support the current educational reform movement depends largely on the view of the learner.
