Hand Carved Dolls by Susan Aye

Greetings from Tonganoxie! I'm very pleased to present my latest Hitty carved from holly wood, one of my most favorite woods to work with. She has a delicate smile that I've been trying to attain for some time now and I'm very pleased with how she turned out. All of her clothing was hand sewn by me from vintage crocheted-edge napkins for her underclothes and apron and quality cotton for her dress.

I only use hardwoods to carve my Hittys. Holly is technically a hardwood but not nearly as hard as white ash or maple. Holly wood is a dream to work with and it has become my wood of choice. I do like variety, though, and have carved many Hittys from white ash, maple and other kinds of wood. I only use basswood for my larger dolls that will be painted. My Hittys are priced from $400, including insured Federal Express delivery charges, and antler Hittys from $550. I take orders for my other dolls, such as the 1700s style carved woodens and Santas which sell from $700 fully dressed or from $600 if you choose to dress them yourself.
