Robert H. Hagenbuch, Jr. is a diverse musician with extensive
performance, teaching and composition experience in both Kansas City and Northern California. Many of his students frequently gain first chair/first stand orchestral seating and are also awarded “I” ratings at District and State Music Contest Festivals. Since 1993, Mr. Hagenbuch has maintained a full schedule of private violin, viola and composition students at Antioch Music Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He has gained great respect in the music arena and is highly sought after as an inspiring and motivating instructor, clinician, adjudicator and commissioned composer.
As a violinist, Mr. Hagenbuch has performed with numerous symphonies, choirs and string quartets. During his California residency he was concertmaster of the Eureka Symphony, the Humboldt Symphony, the Humboldt Chorale Orchestra and the Humboldt Oratorio Society Orchestra. Mr. Hagenbuch played second violin with two, performing string quartets, “Quartetto con Brio” and the “Capiccione Quartet.” His ensemble experience also included singing lead tenor and descant with the Humboldt Men’s Chorus of which he was assistant director.
In Kansas City, Mr. Hagenbuch performed with the Liberty Community Theater as the “Fiddler” in Fiddler on the Roof, and in numerous collaborations with the Jacomo Chorale, Jeffrey Carter, director. He presented a violin recital in 1996 as a Music/Arts Institute, solo faculty performer. In 2002, Mr. Hagenbuch performed two violin recitals, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and as an invited concert series performer sponsored by the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Summer Music Concerts. Mr. Hagenbuch also co-organized and performed numerous recitals and events from 1996-1999 with the string quartet, “Scherzo Strings.” In the spring of 2005, he became a member of the Liberty Symphony Orchestra, Tony Brandolino, conductor.
Mr. Hagenbuch is a very active, prolific composer and receives frequent commissions for his original music. His principal composition teachers at Humboldt State University, Aracta, California, were Charles Moon and Duane Heller. He has presented six composition recitals solely of his own music with the most recent recital on February 3 2007 at William Jewell College.
During the summer of 1992, he studied Advanced Compositional Techniques at the Aspen Music Festival with George Tsontakis of the Julliard School of Music. Inspired by the exceptional music atmosphere in Aspen, Mr. Hagenbuch created nearly forty new works that year. To date, he has composed more than 170 solo, chamber, choral and orchestral works that encompass all voice and instrument types. Of the many solo compositions, Mr. Hagenbuch has created numerous piano pieces, notably, two books of “Piano Preludes” totaling 36 works. At the end of the year 2006, Hagenbuch reached the milestone of Opus 100.
In December of 2005, Hagenbuch was awarded a CD recording contract with the prestigious ERM Media, “Masterworks of the New Era” project for his symphonic orchestra composition, “Essay - Homage to Barber," Opus 41. The “Essay” was professionally recorded in February 2006 by the Kiev Philharmonic, and conducted by the award-winning conductor-composer Robert Ian Winstin.
Distribution of the volume #11 CD recording, slated for Spring of 2007, is large scale via international radio broadcasts, internet radio, NuMusic.org and retail venues including, Amazon.com, ArkivMusic.com, CDUniverse.com, CDBaby.com, Barnes & Noble, Virgin Records, etc. The "Essay" received its USA premiere with the Liberty Symphony Orchestra, Tony Brandolino, conductor, at the September 30, 2006 Family Concert during the 2006-2007 season.
In December of 2006, Hagenbuch was awarded a CD recording contract with the prestigious ERM Media, “Made in the Americas” project with the Millennium Symphony for his symphonic orchestra composition, “Overture of Crisis," Opus 96. The Opus 96 work will be professionally recorded mid-March 2007, in Norfolk, VA and will be conducted by the award-winning conductor-composer Robert Ian Winstin. The "Overture" was just 1 of 7 new works selected from a field of over 325 submissions for inclusion on this 1st, landmark CD.
Mr. Hagenbuch’s commissioned works include “Ave Maria” for the Jacomo Chorale’s 15th Anniversary Concert, “Daydreams” for the Maple Park Middle School Orchestra, “Suite for B-flat Clarinet” for John Wiener, former principal clarinetist of the KC Symphony, “This is My Play’s Last Scene” for the Kansas University Men’s Glee Club, “March for Liberty” for the East Central Indiana Youth Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, “Chant & Melancholy Scherzo” for the Oak Park High School Orchestra. Works in progress include “Viola Concerto” and “Requiem for Chorus & Orchestra.”

Hagenbuch is also a profilic home-brewer. He has been practicing the art since 1990. He brews between 18-24 beers annually, and hosts exclusive tasting parties. To date, he's created over 60 unique recipe designs. He is known for his extremely well-crafted, pure and natural brews, specializing in, but not limited to, Stouts, Pale Ales, and Barley Wine (strong ale).
