Zack-Stolen- Appaloosa-Pacific, Missouri-FOUND!
Update on Zack's Recovery! July 13, 2002
Thank you so much for getting the word out! Please let all your contacts know that Zack has just
been found!!! He WAS definetly stolen but escaped his thieves! I want to make sure that folks
realize this is NOT a case of a mistaken report! This horse was stolen. He just was smarter than his
captors! He still had on the halter and lead they used. The saddle has not been recovered.
He is pretty beat up. Looks like they put a rope behind his fetlocks and his elbows to try to load him.
(Not exactly horse people, I'd say!) His back is abraded and raw where the saddle rubbed. (They
didn't steal a pad and the saddle they took didn't fit his broad back.) He is pretty lame, too. But he is
HOME!!! Let me tell you, we wept like babies! First time Zack's ever gotten praised for being a snot
and refusing to load!
This is a very private area and we're all horse owners and no one thought it could happen here.
Please remind everyone to be vigilant and be alert! It apparently CAN happen anywhere!
So glad to report a happy ending!
Beth

Stolen from his pasture in Pacific, Missouri on July 12, 2002
$1000 REWARD for information leading to recovery of Zack!
"Zack" (ApHC registered name is Zip to Fame but the thief, of course, wouldn't know that.) Twelve year-old Appaloosa gelding. 15 hands, stocky build.
Red roaned to leopard-like pattern. Now mostly base white with sorrel legs. White blaze still faintly visible against white coat. Three socks. Small sorrel spots throughout coat. His face is whiter now with the blaze not as visible. What doesn't show up real well in the photo is all the small sorrel dots throughout his coat. One front tooth is slightly damaged.
Case # 02-65241
Officer Brian Panus, St. Louis County police
(314) 628-5500
This property backs up to a heavily wooded area. There are some trails through it that hunters use. One fence on the perimeter of the property was cut --definetly not pushed down but a clean cut. The owner found the bit and reins of his bridle--no headstall--on a further fence. Verified it was theirs. Western synthetic saddle was also missing from the tack room in the barn. Followed the trail across neighboring property where a gate was down. Found some of Zack's tail hair on the gate. Found a blue t-shirt on the trail with Zack's hair on it, too.
Neighbors heard a horse whinnying around 3:00. Both he and his stable mate would have whinnied for each other if separated. The stable mate is here.
