Book Abstract Summary

Dreams - My Lamp Unto The Darkness

Summary Report by S. A. Blake, PhD

This book project was first revealed to the author in a dream in 1992. In that dream, an author who had written extensively about dreams, appeared and told Mr. Stover to stop writing magazine articles about dreams and write a full length book instead. He was also told that it would be much easier than he imagined and that it would be written in three parts. The three parts sounded like chapter organization, but no such format ever occurred. Then over a period of years the book was finally written in three locations. Early sections were written in Atlanta, Ga. Follow up sections were done in Virginia Beach, Va and the book was completed in Phoenix, AZ.

Anecdotal Evidence – The anecdotal evidence for precognitive dreaming is very strong and stretches back to before Biblical times. Prior to invading Italy, Hannibal asked for a dream about his future military activities. He was shown winning decisive victories and decided to persevere in his conquest of Italy. An Egyptian prince slept one day in front of the mighty Sphinx and wondered if he would ever become king of Egypt. In his dream, he was told to clear away all of the debris that had buried most of the Sphinx statue and he would then become king. Upon awakening, he had his slaves clear away the debris so that the Sphinx would be totally visible again. The prince later became King Thutmose IV and erected a stone tablet in front of the Sphinx to document that he and the God figure in his dream had both kept their bargain.

Napoleon won many famous battles but his adventures at Waterloo were domed and foretold in a dream. On the eve of that historic event, he dreamed of a large black cat
That moved back and forth between his army and his opposition. Finally this dreaded symbol of bad luck came back to lay down with his French troops. On the following day, his army was dealt a studding defeat by the opposing armies. Elias Howe labored for months working to invent a practical seeing machine. He was using a needle with a hole in the middle that made good stitches, but they quickly pulled apart. Then in a dream, he found himself surrounded by savages brandishing spears at him. All of the spears had a hole in the point. Upon awakening, he quickly realized that he needed to modify his sewing needle and rapidly completed his amazing invention.

There are hundreds of other dream examples. Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote his famous poem the Kubla Kahn poem in 1797 following a dream during an afternoon nap. The German chemist Kekule discovered the highly elusive ring structure of the benzene molecule based on a dream. Abraham Lincoln dream of his own death just days before his assignation. Pompey dreamed of defeat and Caesar’s death was foretold in a dream. Descartes’ dreams shaped his outstanding career, and Constantine dreamed of a flaming cross before embracing Christianity. The San Francisco earth quake and the Jewish holocaust were both predicted by dreams. Numerous people dreamed of the sinking of the Titanic.

Clinical Evidence - Dr. Robert Van de Castle summarizes some of the key progress points in the area of psychic dream research in his book Our Dreaming Mind. In 1819, H. M. Wesserman successfully projected messages to experimental subjects while they slept and dreamed. While the general content of the dream was successfully received, some of the characters in the dreams were changed. Dr. Van de Castle further documents the evidence for psychic dreaming based on a fascinating questionnaire approach. Survey questions sent to several thousand individuals listed in Who’s Who In America resulted in 430 replies claiming some kind of ESP experience and dreams were involved in 25 percent of these cases.

The. Dr. Louisa Rhine at the Parapsychology Laboratory at Duke University compiled by far the best-known and largest body of such dream evidence. Dr. Rhine collected over 7000 accounts of ESP experiences. The majority of these accounts were dream related and were precognitive in nature. The material for this work was collected by advertisements in various well-known popular media.

Dr. David Ryback, a psychologist in Atlanta, used a questionnaire survey approach to investigate precognitive dreaming in college students. His survey of over 433 participants showed that 290 or 66.9 percent reported some form of paranormal dream. Using very rigid standards, Dr. Ryback examined those responding to the survey. He rejected many of these claims and reached a conclusion that 8.8 percent of the population was having actual precognitive dreams.

Psychic dreams can be divided into two categories. The first category called “informative dreams” give general information about the future but lack any highly specific events that occur just like it was shown in the dream. Precognitive dreams on the other hand are those in which specific elements or events shown in the dream actually occur later to the dreamer. The author provides specific examples of both types of dreams from his own vast collection of dream experiences.

Developing intuition is a highly recommended pathway to improving dream life and promoting precognition. Twelve specific development steps are recommended to develop
Intuition. Yoga and meditation are highly recommended as they develop the spiritual connections needed in this entire area. Other recommended programs are recommended:

Maintaining proper diet
Maintaining proper positive attitude
Doing daily exercise including walking
Recording dreams and related ideas in a journal every day
Doing Guided Visualizations
Using guessing games
Following your hunches
`Following synchronicity events
Doing free or rapid writing exercises
Using idea trees.

Dream interpretation can best be done using a simple seven step process that the writer developed while dong a Masters Degree thesis on dreams. The seven key steps are

Give the dream a title
Develop a theme for the dream
Answer key questions involving who – when – where – what about the dream
Do symbol amplification to understand how the symbols relate to the theme
Re-write the dream into a concise format to achieve understanding
Check with your feelings and for overall fit to the original message
Take action and apply the dream message to your actual life situation

Numerous examples are given to show how this process works on real dreams.

Improving dream recall and doing incubations for dreams on a specific subject are discussed in detail Twenty five methods are included for the reader to explore. Key items

The author has over 15,000 dreams in his journals and they have included advice and guidance on a wide range of subjects including career guidance, health and nutrition, and successful stock market investing. On one occasion in 1985, the corporation he worked for offered a highly attractive early retirement package. His dreams strongly encouraged him to take that offer. This led to an exciting new job in Atlanta, Gad about six months later. Some years later, Mr. Stover was planning a move to Las Vegas, NV to be near his relatives. Several dreams gave him a clear warning not to move to Las Vegas. He then changed his plans and made a highly successful relocation to Phoenix, AZ where he also had relatives. The author also has had problems with food sensitivities over a period of many years. His dreams have been highly successful in guiding him in selecting proper foods and warning him what not to eat. His investment dreams about a the stock market
comprise about 10% of his total dreams and have been extremely successful in helping him find stocks that made huge gains starting in 1995.

In 1998, the author started the PSMD Group - Precognitive Stock Market Dream group. This group of about 20 – 25 individuals all have dreams or intuitive messages about investing which they share within the group via e-mail. They have around 15 messages per month on a wide variety of subjects. This is not an investment club, there are no dues, they do not maintain a model portfolio, or issue and buy – sell recommendations. Not all of these dreams come true. The author finds that 60 – 65% of the dreams where he is given a specific company name will produce large gains when held for 2 – 4 years. The greatest success within the group occurs when numerous members have similar dreams about a the same subject. This occurred in late 2002 when a large number of bullish dreams occurred and the market scored huge gains in 2003. In mid 2006, a similar situation existed and was pointing to higher stock price levels going into 2007. These events
accurately potrayed the US stock market rise to new ll time highs
in mid 2007
