We also are trying to get a Class Action Suite filed against Eli Lilly. If you have a family member or know of someone who has committed suicide due to the side effects of Prozac,Please E-mail me. My E-mail address is listed below.Let me share our story and I pray you will want to share your story and help us.We belive the more voices we have the more we can get someone to listen,Maybe togeather we can make these drug companies be held responsable for the death's of or loved ones. This is our story.
My Dad and Mom had been happily maried for 47 years they had 4 of us kids 2 girls and 2 boys they had 11 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren with 2 on the way.Dad and Mom loved life they loved each other and they loved there family and also loved to travel .When Dad was faced with retirement he went into depression. He was hospitalized for a short time and met his psychatrist who was wonderful she put dad on 20mgs of Prozac and monitered him regularly,Dad really like her and he was doing fine when the Dr.moved out of town, she did set Dad up with another Psychatrist before she left town, but Dad didn't care for this Dr. and was doing so much better he decided he would just go to his family Dr. for his prescriptions. His family Dr.told dad that this was a hormonal problem and that dad would probably have to be on Prozac the rest of his life. Dad was on Prozac for about Three years before he started having problems.I can tell you now that Dad became extremly manic(which is a know side effect of Prozac) he started working part time driving cars across country for a local car dealership, but he didn't stop there he would do auto machanics for all his friends started doing light constuction took on snow removal for a janitorial co. and right before his death he was driving cars for six differant dealships,he would drive for 16 to 18 hours straight we learned he wasn't stopping for rest or food.We kept telling him he had to slow down but he would just grin and say he was fantastic. We didn't no at that time that it was the Prozac making him manic,Then on a trip to my brothers house in Wisconson they noticed something was wrong with dad so mom had a talk with him and found out he had taken himself of the Prozac,(which we were never told he could not do,we now no this is a very dangerous thing to do)Mom new that dad was getting very sick so they cut there vacation short and got dad home to see his Dr.The Dr.said Dad was depressed again (which we now no he was in a sever withdrawl from Prozac) and put him on Effexor, mom called the Dr. just days after that and told him dad wasn't getting any better that he was going downhill fast. The Dr.told mom to take dad of the Effexor for 2 day and then start taking 20mgs of Prozac for 10 days then increase the dose to 40mgs.After a few more days mom called the Dr. again and told him dad was worse than ever. The Dr. hospitalized Dad for 2 days because he was so dehydrated,at this point he could not eat or drink anything, and called in a psychatrist for a evaluation.Upon release from the hospital they went to see the psychatrist but was told there appt. was not with the Dr. but with a therapist.they spent 1 hour with the therapist and was told to come back in a week mom said she didn't want to wait that long so they agreed on coming back in 5 days.During those five days dad keep getting sicker and sicker he started saying he could feel his insides shaking which we now no was (Akathasia) a known side effect of Prozac. The Drs. put dad on Zanax to help his inner restlessness. All the Drs. said was it was a waiting game it takes time for the Prozac to kick in,Mom asked the therapist to hospitalize dad but he said the hospital wouldn't do any more for him than they were already doing. They made a appt. for 1 week later, during this week dad still was not eating or drinking he had sever akathasia he couldn't stand any noise or light. He was literally coming out of his skin the Drs. told him he could take as much Zanax as needed dad was eating them like candy to calm the akathasia. As a matter of fact dad was at my house the 4th of July which was the last day I seen dad alive. The fourth of July will always be a sad day for my husband and myself while everybody is celebrating this day we will never forget seeing the terror in my dads eyes he was so paronoid it was the sadest thing to see he only had 2 of his Zanax left and he was worried he wouldn't make it till morning .He asked if maybe I had any Zanax and when I told him I didn't he just looked terrified I suggested that they go to a all night pharmacy but he said he thought he he would be ok. The day of there second appt. Mom was starting to think maybe it was the Prozac causing all his problem and told the Dr. she was worried about upping the dose the Dr. said Dad was well with in the theraputic range that there was nothing to worry about.Three days later they upped the dose to 40mgs.The last three days of dads life were pure hell,he still had all his symptoms but now he was so cold he covered up from head to toe with a blanket and he would stay that way all day till bed time on the 3rd day of 40mgs mom had to go run a errand she asked Dad if he would be alright, if he wanted one of us girls to come sit with him but he said he would be fine all he wanted was peace and quite. When Mom returned 1 hour later she didn't see dad on the couch were he had been the last two days and started calling his name there was no answer she started up the stairs to the bedrooms still calling to him but there was no answer as she went to there bedroom she noticed the bathroom door partially opened she was so frightened by now she slowly opened the bathroom door were she found Dad in the shower he had shot himself in the head. Our lives will never be the same with out Dad and we promise him all the time we will get Eli Lilly, the FDA and the Drs. who can hand Prozac out like candy but claim they didn't know of these side effects.I hope you will share your story with us and join or crusade against Eli Lilly and the FDA.They need to be held accoutable for the terrible side effects of there wonder drug. For more information about Prozac and other SSRI'S Please check out my links you will find a tremendous amount of information there.
