The Spring Conference...... History in the Making!

Yahoo Quick Search
Celebrating 70 years dedicated to the free exchange of ideas affecting issues in education, culture, and society, the Spring Conference is a small organization that has met at the Chicago Essex Inn for a weekend every year since 1935. The Spring Conference has provided provocative challenges, heated debates, and opportunities to wrestle with substantive issues -- the kind that continue to challenge members long after they return home from the weekend.

Over the past 60 some years, the group has experienced a number of changes in its composition, yet the purpose of the group remains the same. Members represent a broad range of individuals from areas which include education, health, the humanities, public policy, social welfare, future studies, and corporate America. The Spring Conference is a forum for serious discussion, group dialogue, debating new ideas, informality, earnestness, argumentation, good humor, and mutual respect. The annual conference has no papers, no minutes, no resolutions, and no publications other than a periodic newsletter. No formal papers are given and no formal records of what is discussed at the meeting are kept because the group has a rich history of radical thinkers in times when radical thought has garnered political repercussions. The Spring Conference does allow for personal statements of issues, an agenda determined by attendees, presentation of provocative views, and animated discussion regarding education, culture, and society.

For membership criteria and further information regarding the historical Spring Conference, contact factotum Luke Glowiak by email at lglowiak@syc427.org or by phone at (815) 899-8100. We are always looking for individuals who will add even more texture to our conversations. We recruit from educational institutions as well as community and business organizations.
