Total Sports Takes

Welcome to my web page,here you will find sports opinions on just about any major or college sport.Iam a 30 something male with a huge appetite for"The Sport"and I totally believe that all sports are "talking sports"I hope you enjoy my page and if you have any "takes" of your own please feel free to e-mail me and maybe I'll post them."Todays Take"-Tues.May 16,2000-"Goalie Interference?"-It seems to me in practically every sport today that has any presence of physical play, that whatever the sport the governing bodies are going out of their way to protect the players.The problem I have with this is this-I completely understand that all these athletes are entiteled to some form of protection from an officials stand point,especially in the day of "Bigger,Stronger,and Faster" athletes.My point is can this protection be interfering with the absolute fabric of the game or the history of how a certain game has been played.An example I can give is this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs, it seems that if a goaltender leaves his protected space(The Crease)to play the puck that if the opposing team even so much as breaths on him the are whistled and sent to the box.In my knowledge of hockey past is the thought that if a goaltender is willing to risk leaving his crease then he too should be willing to take any consequences that this may result in(with in the rules of course).It just seems to me that in this day in age of the over paid warriors that all this so called "protection"may in some way have a dramatic affect on the final result of the game.I truly don't want to see any athlete suffer any major injury,but come on guys let them play the games the way they are suppose to be played.
