A Fun Day For Your Loved One
My girlfriend goes to college, so I decided to send her on a "treasure hunt" on our anniversary. I bought several small things(stuffed animals, etc.)and went to her school. I had a little notepad and wrote a note to her and placed it in her car, telling her to first check her car, then go to a certain destination(in this case the swings at a park that we'd frequented). I gave specific instructions on where to look, and there placed another gift and note to her. I continued this until I finally reached her house. I bought an outfit just for the occasion, cooked her dinner, and had a painting that i made for her hiding somewhere in the house. Later that night I fixed her a bath with lavender tea candles and lavender bath crystals. Total cost was around $50 and it was a night neither of us forgot. -submitted by David

A Little Detour
My girlfriend and I had been going out for 2 and a half years, so I wanted to do something really special. That day, I told her to drive to my house and we would go out to eat etc. from there. I went and ordered 4 separate bundles of flowers--each containing one yellow rose and two orange tulips (these go great together). I took one bundle to her aunt's house, another to a local store where one of her friends worked, one to her friend's house, and kept the other one. I left a note in her car door that said, "Go to your aunt's house (Just Trust Me)." On that bundle, I put a note that said, "Go to Kristin's (her friend) work.” On the bundle awaiting her there, it said, "Go to Jennifer's house." On the bundle there, it said, "Come to my house. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BABE!!!" When she got to my house, I had the remaining bundle to make the dozen; however, it was in a vase in the candlelit formal dining room. I made her spaghetti (her favorite food), garlic bread, and drinks. For dessert, I had her favorite ice cream dished up in the freezer. This took a lot of work, but it was worth it to see the smile on her face. -submitted by Joel Thompson

A Night Without Worries
This is what my husband did for me. We have two kids and the big thing with us is no time to ourselves. Well my husband really listened to that. When I got home late for work one night I was greeted at the door by a letter it said don't say anything just follow the instructions so I walked in followed by another note with a trail of rose buds the letter read put all you things down and don't say a word so I did that so I followed the trail of rose buds to the next note which read get undressed I followed the instructions and the trail of rose buds lead to the bathroom which was covered with rose buds and a dozen roses. In the bathroom there were candles all over, a bubble bath and a bottle of champaign and the last note said now take a bath and enjoy yourself and don't worry about anything. When I finished with the bath I had a brand new bath robe and a beautiful smelling bottle of lotion on the bed I'm sure you can imagine the rest when he finally showed up. -submitted by Laurie

A Romantic Proposal
My Boyfriend had "reserved me" for the days of June 3rd and 4th, so I knew that he had something planned, but I had no idea what. He asked me to come over to his house on Monday afternoon, and when I went out to my car to leave my house, on my hood was a cluster of lilacs and a little film canister. I opened up the canister and read: "Today we are going on a scavenger hunt. I have chosen 9 special places to symbolize the 9 months that we've been dating and you have to find each place by the clues I'm leaving you." And he left me the first clue. The first spot was his house. Then while I was there I had to find the next clue and so on. It was so much fun because we visited all of our romantic spots like where he asked me out and where we had our first kiss. The 4th spot we visited was along side of the St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis. That's where we had been on our first date and several times since then. In this spot there was no next clue ... instead he handed me a rolled piece of paper on which he had written me the most romantic letter I've ever read, talking about how much I mean to him and how much he loves me. It was so sweet, and when I was done I gave him a big hug. While we were hugging I heard a ringing noise from the woods next to us. After a few rings Brian told me to go figure out what it was. So I walked down the little path to find a huge pile of golf balls at the bottom of the path. I wasn't really sure what was going on and asked Brian what he wanted me to do with them all. He said, "Kick them off!" So I did. Underneath the golf balls was a heart-shaped stepping stone (which he had made) that read: “ON THIS SPOT, BRIAN (his full name) WAS ENGAGED TO CARA (my full name). MY FIRST LOVE, MY TRUE LOVE, MY SOULMATE FOREVER. JUNE 3rd, 2002.” I was like, "engaged?" I turned around and Brian was down on one knee holding a ring for me. It was the most incredible proposal I could have ever imagined! -submitted by Cara

A Shared Treasure Hunt
A few years ago my boyfriend had to work till late in the evening so I decided to surprise him with a treasure hunt. I had some nice envelopes and stationary and left clues all around the house. The house was dark, and silent. The first clue was taped to the front door for when he arrived. I included a book of matches and the rules of the game. I offered hints for the price of a kiss and a message that read, "Follow the clues to light your way." The first clue also included a small candle for him to light. I hid wine glasses, a chilled bottle of our favorite wine, chocolate to share, and a couple of little gifts for him. As he found the items, he had small tasks to complete...like choosing a song and dancing with me, sharing a glass of wine with me, things like that. With each clue I included a candle for him to light, after he had found all the clues and lit all the candles and turned on the music and opened the wine and fed me the chocolate it really enhanced the mood. Needless to say the evening was perfect and unforgettable. He still has all of the clues and even the matchbook (four years later!) and every now and then we run across them and it still makes him smile. -submitted by Anonymous

A Sweet Adventure
Just the other night when I got off work there was a little piece of paper on my car that said to go to a certain place. So I did. Then when I got to this certain place there was a note that told me to go to another place so I did. And when I found the other note it was a map of the woods that was behind my house and when I followed the map it lead me right to my boyfriend he had set up a nice little picnic with wine and fruit and a single rose. At that time I was in shock then he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes and we sat there and talked until the stars came out then we went home. That was the most sweetest thing he has every done for me. -submitted by Brandi

A Very Special Treasure
We are trying to get pregnant and I have prepared a surprise for my husband for when I discover I am having a child. I have prepared a letter in a 16th century style, written as if from a pirate, which tells about treasure hidden in a place near the sea. It’s printed in an old looking font. I wrote it so that the edges aren’t straight – so it doesn’t look as if it was computer written. I printed it on ordinary white paper, and after that colored it with black tea (put some hot water on the tea bag, then color the paper with the tea water, repeating this until you get the color the way you want it. When you are done, the letter will have the color and the structure of old paper. Together with the letter he will receive an old map showing the place where the clue is hidden. Then I burned the edges of both the letter and map, folded them and sealed them. If you can find a bottle with a cork, roll them up and insert into the bottle. I printed one more letter from the “pirate” that I will hide in an old wooden chest, which tells that the biggest treasure is the one your wife has under her heart. The clue of the wooden chest I will mark on the map. I can’t wait for the moment he finds the chest, opens it and reads the second letter. -submitted by Ziemelmeita

Birthday Love Hunt
My then boyfriend, now husband did a scavenger hunt for me for my birthday that was wonderful. We were both in college at the time so, he told me after my class to call him before I left to go home, so I did and he gave me directions to go somewhere which led to a restaurant far away from home and he was there waiting for me. We sat and ate and after a while he handed me a 50-dollar bill and said, "This is a very important part of your birthday, hold on to it." So, of course I am clueless. After we ate he said he left something in the car and he would be back. I was sitting in the restaurant waiting for him to come back when the phone rang and he said, "Pay the waitress with the 50-dollar bill and get in the car and call me back." I followed his directions and called him back. He told me to look in the glove compartment and gave me directions on where to go to next. In the glove compartment was a hotel key. I followed his directions and ended up at the hotel. He had given me the room number and I used the key to go in. When I opened the door I saw a trail of roses that led to him in the Jacuzzi waiting for me. It was the best birthday and very surprising because I didn't think he could be so romantic. -submitted by Torrie

Bus Stop Treasure Hunt
Although it has been done in various guises before on this site, on our 1st anniversary, I called my girlfriend and told her to meet me on an obscure bus stop (where we met). When she got there, I’d put a white rose and a letter on the seat. In the letter was a rhyming clue to the next location of importance (our first date, our first kiss, etc), and one verse (of many) of a love poem I’d written. I stayed just ahead of her, out of sight, running around town placing letters and white roses, making sure nobody stole them. Granted, you look a bit strange, running around with a bunch of roses and a handful of letters, but it’s worth it! At the end were many roses, a present, and the last verse of the love poem. Worked a treat for me! -submitted by Dave

Car Love Hunt
Put balloons with a love letter and a gift in his trunk. Put little notes on/in his car saying: “Look in back seat”, “Look in glove compartment”, “Look in arm rest”, “Look on right side of dash board”, (leave a flower or gift item in each location mentioned), etc., leaving the last one with “Look in trunk.” -submitted by India
