Space, into the beyond
Space is an endless creation which contains millions of gallexys and stars. There are nine planets that we know of. These are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Here is an easy way to remember the planets in order - My Very Easy Meathod Just Speeds Up Naming Planets. Here are some different facts about each planet.
Mercury - Distance to the sun:57900000km
1 orbit of the sun: 88 Days
It is the Nearest planet to the sun.
Venus - Distance to the sun:108200000km
1 orbit of the sun: 224 Days
It Is the hottest Planet in th solar system because of clouds trapping the heat.
Earth - Distance to the sun:149600000km
1 orbit of the sun: 365 1/4 Days
The only known planet to inhabbit life.
Mars - Distance to the sun:227900000km
1 orbit of the sun: 687 Days
This planet is also known as the red planet.
Jupiter - Distance to the sun:778300000km
1 orbit of the sun: 11.9 Earth years
It is the largest planet in our solar system.
Saturn - Distance to the sun:1427000000km
1 orbit of the Sun: 29.5 Earth Years
It also has four spectacular rings surrounding it.
Uranus -Distance to the sun:2869600000km
1 orbit of the sun: 84 Earth years
It spins around space on it's side
Neptune - Distance to the sun:4496600000km
1 orbit of the sun: 165 Earth years
This planet has a core which has a core of diamond.
Pluto - Distance to the sun:5900100000km
1 orbit of the sun: 284 Earth years
It is the smallest planet in the solar system.
THE STORY OF EARTH
4,600 million years ago - Huge swirling ball of gases and dust
3,800 million years ago - The Earth colled down and let off steam clouds.
2,500 million years ago - The first living things grew in the sea. Mountains begin forming.
570 million years ago - Plants grew and made oxygen which made it possible for life to grow.
500 million years ago - Ferns grew in swamps
400 million years ago - Fish developed
300 million years ago - First insects and reptiles
225 million years ago - The age of dinosaurs
193 million years ago - Pangaea started splitting apart
136 million years ago - The first mammals
65 million years ago - Dinosaurs died out
2 million years ago - The ice age
1 million years ago - The early ancestors of people arrived
5,000 million years into the future - The sun will blow up
GALEXIES
Stars are not scattered about the universe. They are gathered in huge groups each containing hundreds of thousands of stars. These groups are called galaxies. Our sun is a star in a galaxy called the Milky Way. Our galaxy measures about 80,000 light years across. The Milky Way is shaped rather like a cathrine wheel firework. Scintists call it a spiral shaped galaxy.
Galaxies do not sit still in space. They spin slowly round in space. one complete spin is called a galactic year. The milky way takes 225 million years to spin once.
OTHER FACTS ABOUT THE PLANETS
Mercury - This planet is the nearest planet to the sun and because of tha it is impossible to live there. Mercury is a dry, airless, gas-filled planet. It has no moons orbiting it.
Venus - Venus is almost the same size as Earth but you could not live there. Venus is covered by carbon-dioxide clouds and it rains sulphuric acid. It has no moons orbiting it.
Mars - Mars is the cause of many stories about Martians. It has two moons orbiting it called Demios and Phobos.
Jupiter - Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System. When the Universe was fomed it almost became its own star. It has 16 moons and there could be more.
Saturn - Saturn is well known for its spectacular rings. It has an atmsphere which manly contains hydrogen. It has 23 moons and there may be many more.
Uranus - Uranus was the first planet to be discovered by English astronomer, Sir William Herschel. It has 15 moons surrounding it.
Neptune - Neptune is a gaseous planet made of hydrogen and helium. On Neptune there is a small dark spot which has a frozen methane center. It has eight moons orbiting it.
Pluto - Pluto was the last ever planet to be discovered and the planet we know least about. Pluto has a very strage orbit
because It passes through the orbit of Neptune. It has one moon called Charon and both Pluto and Charon spin around the same point.
