Born September of 1973 in Toppenish, WA. J.E.Smith is one of five children. He is the son of Edward J. Smith and Mary Blevins-McCarty.
John is a father of three children Robert, Vera and Edward Smith.
The name John Smith started in the 1900's belonging to a man that was one of the 5 elders of the Shaker Church that formed the corporation, which John Slocum and his wife Mary were the founders of the religion. Therefore the name went from John Edward Smith to Edward John Smith back and forth from father to son ever since. John's father Edward passed that down to him. John's Grandmother, Jean Smith, maiden name Allen, was born to Henry Allen and Lucy Sherwood. Henry Allen was one of the last canoe carver's and was also a well known stone mason along the Hood Canal area. John's mother Mary McCarty, is the daughter of traveling ministers that went to the Native American communities/reservations across the Northwest.
Jean Allen (Grandmother) married in to the John Smith (Grandfather) family from the Chehalis Tribe. Which falls in to how John and his family do the grave digging for the Skokomish People. Which is an important role in Native communities. Not just anyone can do that kind of work. It is all purely done out of the kindness of their hearts. John has made a few caskets and Urns for a few of the families that struggled to make ends meet.
John, being raised between Skokomish and Makah Indian Reservation, had the opportunity to help and learn from some of the respectable elders.
