'BART THE GENERAL'
It's hard to believe that an episode of this calibre was made in the first season. Such built-up character, such a good plot, so many jokes. It makes for one of the best episodes from season 1. Grampa and Herman are great characters in this episosde, particularly Grampa, who although with a slightly different character than in later episodes, is great - funny, and gets really involved in the story.
Skinner and Marge also shine in this episode with a couple of good lines each, and Homer has his fair share of good lines too. The brilliant ending with Bart discussing war, is the icing on a very delicious cake.

OVERALL: One of the best built S1 episodes. 83%, B+.
