Episode Reviews-Wesley's Reviews-Season 1-Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire
Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire (7G08) by Wesley Mead
The first ever episode of OFF broadcasted, and although a bit Americanised, it still remains a classic. It has stood the test of time well.
Some of my favourite parts include the opening scenes at the S. E. performance - Bart's version of Jingle Bells, the 'Santa's of Many Lands' feature..
Homer's attempt at Christmas lights compared to Flanders is great, and another mention goes to Homer's attempts at presents from the Circus of Values.
More highlights include Bart pulling Santa's beard, Barts lne 'It happened to Tiny Tim, the Smurfs and it's gonna happen to us!', and my overall fave scenes being the 'Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer' song at the end and Patty, Selma and Lisa's conversation.Oh, and Homer in santa class, naming the reindeer.
That's not to say it doesn't have low points though. Those that come to mind for me include the scene where Marge is writing a letter to relatives - so typical! But as we're talking about Season 1, I guess that can be forgiven. Another low point is the Dog Track scene - so bland. But well, you win some you lose some. Overall this is a quality season 1 episode, and its high points outweigh its low points.
Character:7/10
Plot: 8/10
Humour: 8/10
OVERALL:A solid, well-rounded Season 1 episode. 75%. (Grade:B).
