November 6th 1989 a family moved from their home to seek a new adventure in a town called Irasburg. This very small town is a typical northern New England town in Vermont populations around 750. In the early part of November 1989 the Lemois’ family bought a small home on Rt. 5 little did they know that their home would be a land mark latter in life.
June 6th 1991 the Lemois’ Family open their doors for business, this day, on this day as many decades earlier as then them of World War II with would be do or die, They opened their doors for business as Nancy’s Father James Raymond Courtney landed on the beach of Normandy in 1944 they where embarking on a adventure that would ever change their lives. Nancy’s Video was born.
Over the years Nancy’s Video has had it trouble like with any Business has, but what make this story so wonderful is this Video store has grown not just by the owners but by the town folk around it.
In the late summer of 1998 the eldest member of the videos Family was murdered in their front yard by a drug up punk whom beat Mr. Courtney to death. Mr. Courtney Whom was a WWII Vet, fought on D-Day, Battle of the Bugle, Reinhold, and many more was Killed in Irasburg by a 21 year old punk kid looking for a fight and found James Courtney. What is say that the states attorney didn’t even charge this man for the crime of murder; the States attorney said that Mr. Courtney died of a heart attack when clearly it was murder even the State Medical said it was Murder! But to no avail the punk got off. Four weeks later on September 26th 1998 Brien Paul Lemois SR. died from a heart attack with the hospital failed to fix when he complained of chest pain just three day prior to his death, saying “ Brien is in your head, your just upset over your father-in-laws death, your fine go home and rest.” Well three days later he died. With the family falling apart the town pulled together and helped the family out some ran the store and other cooked and cleaned the home and helped with day to day issues that came up. Then on January 13th 2005 Barbara the daughter of Nancy and Brien died after giving birth to her fourth child. Again the hospitals messed up and cause her death as well. Again the town stood up and helped with the store and the home and the children, at this time Nancy’s only son Brien Jr. stood up and took charge. To this day the Video store is running with the help of Erik and Alyssa and the town it’s a hole in the wall. Cement floors hand make Video racks, etc. but their prices are cheap and the service is wonderful. When you enter the door, you’re met with a smile and we always remember your name. We are not a store but a place where your come a visit, to remember the good times and also many of the bad times but always a place where the town shows their love for the days past. We at Nancy’s Video THANK YOU.
