Eminem born Marshall Bruce Mathers the third was born October 17, 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri. Em's dad left him and his mother when Em was still a baby. Em as a child was shuffled from city to city by his mother Debbie Mathers, because Debbie could not hold a decent job. When Em was about eight years old they finally settled down in the city limits of Detroit, Michigan. Em went to school with mostly blacks and was bullied and harassed. Em dropped out of school after failing ninth grade three times. Em did not have a good relationship with his mother. He describes in his songs that she came home drunk alot and abused prescription drugs. Em realized he was very good at rap. He was in rap battles and competitions in the city. Em made an album called Infinite and sold it out of the trunk of his car. This album did not sell well and did not recieve much air play. In 1996 Eminem had a new baby girl, Halie Jade, with his long time girlfriend Kim Scott. The young family had no money and with Em not finishing high school he could not get a good job. He worked washing dishes adn doing odd jobs. Em later had problems with Kim and divorced her. But Em regained some hope when he heard about a rap competition in Los Angelas called the rap Olympics. Em spent the last of his money to get to the Rap Olympics. Em finished second in this competition. Producer Dr. Dre heard Em and liked his music. Dre signed Em to his label, Interscope Records. Em then wrote the Slim Shady Lp. The Slim Shady Lp was a big success for Em winning him the Grammy for best rap album, with the big hit single "My Name Is" which won an MTV VMA for Best New Artist and A Grammy for best rap solo performance. And with such controversial tracks such as "'97 Bonnie and Clyde," when he dreams about taking his baby daughter with him to dispose of his dead wifes body in the lake. Eminem's album dissed people such as Hilary Clinton, Vanilla Ice, Debbie, Kim, gay and lesbians, and even the United States goverment. Despite this the album sold millions of copies all over the world. His second album the Marshall Mathers Lp was even more of a success but no less controversial.Poking fun at boy bands, Britney, Christina, and even at dead, gay, fashion designer Versoce. The Marshall Mathers Lp won many awards in 2000 and 2001 such as The World Music Awards Best Selling Rap Artist, Blockbuster Entertainment Award for favorite male artist and for favorite rap artist, Grammy for best album of the year, Grammy for best rap solo performance, and Grammy for best rap duo for "Forgot About Dre" with Dr. Dre, just to name a few! This album had hit singles such as "the Real Slim Shady" and "Stan." This album contained a violent track where he dreams about taking his wife into the woods and slitting her throat and watching her choke and bleed. Although his current success Eminem found himself with 2 years probation for assault with a dangerous weapon, his mother sued him for 10 million, and his ex-wife Kim attempted to get full costody of their daughter so that Em could not see her, however Kim failed. With his growing success he made yet another album entitled the Eminem Show. This album was also a great success winning awards such as MTV VMA for best video of the year, best male video, and best rap video. Em starred in the hit 2002 film 8 Mile. This film grossed 250 million in the box office and sold the most copies in one week for a DVD ever! Along with that he put together a hit soundtrack containing such artists as Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Macy Gray, Nas, and Rakim. Em now owns his own record label Shady Records, with 50 Cent, Obie Trice, and D12 signed to his label. Eminem also came out with a full fashion line Shady Limited. Em has been fueding with the owner of the source magazine Benzino. Benzino claims that Em made racist remarks in a track made 16 years ago! I think Em will win that one. Eminem is planning on comming out with another album in the near future but now he is concentrating on producing and spending time with his daughter . I can't wait to see more of Em's great work. In my opinion Em is yet to produce a bad track!
