SEX & DRUGS & ROCK & ROLL

...the fanzine for “Mickey Mouse football” in the South and South East...

ISSUE THREE OUT NEW YEAR 2005! HANDFUL OF COPIES STILL AVAILABLE

What’s in the title? I just happened to be listening to some Ian Dury and the Blockheads. “Hit me with your rhythm stick” was probably ever so slightly too obscure(!), but Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll would catch anyone’s attention and, after all, I am supposed to be trying to sell this thing! Now I’m not suggesting that non-league football is the centre of anyone’s sex life (although I have known of such people, no names!), but for the true fan it is our drug that we’re addicted to, or it’s our rock and roll; our entertainment with its highs and lows. I’ll chuck in another reason for good measure: the Blockheads sounds like most back fours at our level of football! So that’s the origins of my crap title! I thank you.

The fanzine is in black and white for a reason. Yes, you cynics, for one thing it is cheaper! But we want substance not gloss. The majority of programmes these days just seem to have a nice glossy cover but inside you just feel they being produced as an obligation and without much passion. I sympathise in many respects being an ex-programme editor myself as the sheer number of games makes it a somewhat tiresome task at times. Also the world wide web has had a negative effect on programmes - and also on fanzines. Saying that, there did appear a gap in the market, so to speak, for a fanzine. But the difficulties (lack of contributors, etc.) associated with being able to produce a fanzine for my club prompted me to come up with this fanzine concept so that fans at other clubs with similar frustrations to me could collaborate and produce what I hope will be a bloody good read with wit, proper opinion and passion. I hope.

And so far the hopes have not been optimistic. Issue One was mish-mashed together for Easter 2004. Then in August 2004 a far better Issue Two came out near the beginning of the first season following the 'reconstructuring'. Issue Three arrived in as a New Year's resolution in 2005 with a record 40 contributors from South Wales, the South West and Midlands right across to the South East and East Anglia. A bit of colour was added to Issue Three with the cover appearing on yellow paper as the quest for more sales continues.

IF YOU WANT A COPY OF THIS FANZINE THEN THEY MAY BE AVAILABLE FROM YOUR LOCAL TEAM'S CLUB SHOP. THEY ARE ALSO SOLD AT SPORTSPAGES AT CAXTON WALK, 94/96 CHARING CROSS ROAD, LONDON WITH A FURTHER LIMITED NUMBER STOCKED AT SPORTSPAGES, MANCHESTER. MAIL ORDER IS AVAILABLE FROM 28 ELMBROOK DRIVE, BISHOP'S STORTFORD, HERTS, CM23 4JB (at £1.30 for each copy (inc. P&P) cheques payable to Dan Smart please). FANZINES SOLD AT COST FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES SO THEY CAN BE SOLD ON AT MARKED PRICE AND MAKE A PROFIT - IDEAL FOR SUPPORTERS' CLUBS AND CLUB SHOPS - PLEASE CONTACT THE EDITOR FOR DETAILS.

Likewise, anyone that has an interest in advertising in future editions of S&D&R&R is requested to contact the editor. Having had previous involvement with a programme, I would estimate that the print run of S&D&R&R is more than the programme print runs of most clubs at Levels 2-4 of the pyramid.

So far profits from the sales of the fanzines have gone to various Supporters' Clubs and towards the maintenance of www.confsouth.co.uk and
www.isthmianforum.co.uk

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is a completely independent fanzine. It has no connection (official or otherwise) with any Football Club, Supporters’ Club or League. The opinions expressed within it are those of the individual authors and not necessarily those of the editor. Many articles are written in jest and are not intended to cause offence. Right of reply is available to anyone who feels misrepresented or aggrieved by any article (on the assumption that we have another issue). For the record, the editor is a Bishop's Stortford fan.
