Station Waiting
I watched you leave on the morning train
You gave a sort of backwards glance
You waved goodbye throught the windowpane
My little familyNow I've got a song about trains
I never thought I'd get my chance
'Cos more than cars, and more than planes,
A train takes hold of your dreamsThe tracks are endless parallel lines
Like strands of DNA
My wife and children on that line
The whistle fades awayNow I know why they sing
the lonesome whistle blues
I wish that I was on that train
That I could be with youThe stationmaster locks the doors
The cars all drive away
Maybe I should wait 'til you get back
Maybe I should stayThe station is the place to be
Its possibilities
All aboard for parts unknown
Like branches of a treeI could follow, follow you,
Just follow down the tracks
It's better than waiting all week long
for you three to come backThere's not much point in going home
The silence in my ears
The hours would all seem like days
The week would seem like years
Station, waiting, drive home, waiting
Drive back, station, station, waiting
If I could somehow be that train
That's what I'd like to be
My arms would be the passenger cars
With you inside of me
My head would be the engine room
Where all the plans are made
My feet would be the big steel wheels
Rolling us all awayIf that were true, I'd be with you
Wherever we may go
But I'm just a man, that's all I am
Not always in controlTogether we'll all be next time
I've learned my lesson well
It's a wonder small I miss you all
As if you couldn't tell
Station, waiting, drive home, waiting
Drive back, station, station, waiting
