AlumiaWe were standing at the edge of the world
in the drops of falling light
The drops outlined a human form
on the backdrop of the night
And the constellation spoke to us
and we didn't know what to say:
"If you decide to follow me,
you'll be throwing it all away..."So we followed our future to the stars
through the reeling gulfs of space
Our physical forms would be returned
when we found our new homeplace
So we quickly chose the first world
that reminded us of home
It was run by authority figures
that would not leave us aloneWith me would you like to stray
through the sky and far away?
Take with you just what you know
They won't know us when we goLong ago their world was made
into a prison/hospital/school
They welcomed us, inviting us
to obey all the rules
But rules were meant to be broken
like we broke the speed of light
They wanted us to worship them:
Not without a fight, no, not without a fightMiles and miles of corridors
and hallways glistening.
They monitored every thought and word
They were always listening
And the day was lit by starlight
And the night did not exist
And the constellation spoke to us,
"You will not be missed..."With me would you like to stray
through the sky and far away
Take with you just what you know
They won't know us when we goInvisible now, we walked through walls
and went outside the grounds
On sidewalk cracks, through broken gates,
this is what we found:
an abandoned mobile home
that was half-buried in the weeds
We broke in and gathered equipment we would needSo we pointed a beam up through the dome
and prayed for our release
This world was just a stepping stone
on a path that would not cease
And the constellation spoke to us
And said "We must not look back,
or we ourselves would be drawn into
the swiftly-turning black..."Behind us now we heard the sound
of a world collapse
Our captors found themselves caught up
in one of their own traps
And the constellation spoke to us
and we didn't know what to say
"If you decide to follow me,
you'll be throwing it all away..."With me would you like to stray
through the sky and far away?
Take with you just what you know
They won't know us when we gocopyright 1996 sam king
