The Fudgies

Up in Cheboygan sometimes there's nothing to do
but wait winterlong for your check to come through
You just might bag a buck with a ten-point rack,
and eat venison 'til the Fudgies come back

It's the shops on the island
that make all the fudge
It's not against them that we hold this grudge
It's the tourists that buy it
and haul it back home
That's how by Fudgies they've come to be known
(We call them)
Fudgies, Fudgies, I guess we should not complain
It's their money, their money
that keeps us from goin' broke or insane
Just as long as the Mackinaw Bridge is still here,
the Fudgies return the same time every year

Just when we're through burnin' wood in our stoves
the Fudgies come back,
and they come back in droves
They come back by boat or Winnebago bus
and spend summertime just a-botherin' us

In order to please this colorful group,
we'll make anything
from fudge cheese to fudge soup
They look down on us locals
with their noses in the air
As long as they pay us, we don't seem to care
(It's the)
Fudgies, the Fudgies,
I guess we should not complain
It's their money, their money
that keeps us from goin' broke or insane
Just as long as the Mackinaw Bridge is still here,
the Fudgies return the same time every year
