SAVE SARAH'S SCHOLARSHIP!
Sarah is a 19-year-old smart, athletic, straight-laced student at Mt. San Antonio Community College. She gets straight A’s in school, so that’s not really the problem. In order for her to receive her scholarship, she spends a lot of her time (which is most of it) busting her butt on the track team.
On top of keeping up the grades, being up until 1 o’clock in the morning doing homework, and staying focused on the track, she spends what’s left of her time working. Everyday after school – and on the weekends – Sarah works at the school. You would think that all of her sweat and efforts would pay off well. But the job at school only pays her a measly $187 a month! That’s just a little more than she needs for gas money for the hour-long commute to school everyday.
There’s the gas money, the cell phone bill (which is not a luxury; her family needs to get a hold of her when she’s out working or learning all day.), the tuition (including the books and all other school-related expenses)…the $187 just ain’t cuttin’ it!!
Thank goodness for Sarah’s sake, though…she still gets to live with her parents. Otherwise, she’d be completely screwed!
But anyway, with Sarah’s busy schedule and all, she doesn’t have the time to look for another job.
I’m Sarah’s sister, Erin. If I had money to help her out, I would. Unfortunately, I’m jobless at the moment. Sarah and I sat down and tried to think of things she could eliminate, but there really isn’t anything to eliminate. I said, “Maybe you could get rid of the cell phone.” But she’s on a 1-year contract, and if she breaks the contract, it’ll cost an extra $150. Then, I suggested maybe she could do something desperate, like sell brownies…that wasn’t very practical, considering she doesn’t get much in the way of social time (and where would she get time to make brownies? Hmmm….)
I feel really bad for Sarah. After reading this, hopefully you will understand and have a little sympathy for her situation too. If you have any suggestions or want to help out by sending a monetary donation…or something…ANYTHING!! Please contact me at: SaveSarah83@yahoo.com.
