Welcome to the Home Page of the Sarasota AIDS Theatre Project. Here you will find information on our current events, upcoming shows, how to get involved, and how to help.

NEWS: We took part in the candlelight vigil honoring World AIDS Day on Monday, December 1st in Five Points Park, downtown Sarasota. It was a small gathering for a reading of names (of loved ones we've lost from this disease), and prayer. Immediately following the vigil we, along with many of the other vigil attendees - headed across the street to the Golden Apple, where the Sarasota AIDS Theatre Project - along with other professional performers presented "Rememberings" - readings of plays celebrating those we've lost and love. Opening the "Rememberings" event, the Gulf Coast Mens Chorus did a couple of numbers. What a great seque to an emotionally powerful evening. Thank you to ALL who performed - the SATP members, Ian Sullivan, Meliss Kenworthy, Michael Bajjaly, Belinda Allen, Dierdre Mercier, Maureen Martin, Don Dupree, Trevor Kellor, and the Gulf Coast Mens Chorus. And a BIG Thank You goes to all who attended our intimate evening. We are doing this for you - whether you be 1 person - or a crowd of millions.

NOT SO NEW NEWS:
We had a SELL-OUT CROWD at the Golden Apple Dinner Theatre on Friday, September 5th. Our production was "Voices in Response To AIDS" which included readings from "Jeffrey," "As Is," "Angels in America" and "Jerker." The main event was the reading of "LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!" - and the entire evening was a success. This was a Benefit Performance which helped AIDS Manasota and The Soutwest Florida AIDS Quilt, which is sponsored and cared for by The Bethesda House.

So, who are we? The Sarasota AIDS Theatre Project is a group of individuals who are INFECTED or AFFECTED by HIV/AIDS. Our group produces readings of plays relating to living with HIV/AIDS. We perform as volunteers. We perform as people - trying to make a difference. The current members are Milt Alter, Kate Bell, Thom Boles, George Box, Garry Breul (President/Artistic Director), Javier Capella, Donna DesIsles, Stephanie Bashein Emerson (Secretary), Carol Hart (Treasurer), Keith McClimen, Robert Richardson, and Ron Rispoli.
