Christ Church, Kildare Capes

Nancy Mills

Construction for this church began in 1851 but wasn't completed until 1861 and consecreted by Bishop Binney in 1866.

The first recorded burial was Robert Bellin's wife, Jane, age 27. She was buried 25 September 1859 - while the church was still in the construction stage. The Bellin's were from Tignish.

The Travers were loyal supporters of this church, in fact, the first organ was a gift from one of the Travers sisters. She had died very suddenly and the organ was played for the first time at her funeral.

Charles Travers, a nephew of the Travers sisters, married Isabella Dyer, the daughter of the Reverend Dyer of this church. As of 1984 there were Travers still in attendence at this the Church of Christ, although not the original church, since that was destroyed by fire July 18, 1923.
