The Ultimate Greeter Guide
This page is full of the information a Playa Del Fuego greeter should know before they begin their greeter duties.
People You Should Know
Greeters: Greeters are happy, energetic volunteers who greet fellow burners as they drive up to PDF and give them vital information for the event. The greeters are also responsible for telling burners where to park their vehicles as they arrive at PDF.
Rangers: Rangers are the "regulators" of PDF. They respond to medical emergencies, and other situations that cannot be handled by PDF participants alone. However, they are NOT there to be anyone's parents! Rangers are also volunteers.
Department of Public Works (DPW): The DPW volunteers do most of the physical set-up and break-down of PDF. They are also incharge of fixing and attaining things during the event. PDF would not happen if it weren't for the people of DPW!
Coordinators: There are a number of volunteer coordinators for different aspects of Playa del Fuego. All of them can be contacted for assistance within their specified field of leadership. This list can also be seen on the PDF home page under "contacts."

**This information was provided for your knowledge, and so you can better answer any quetions burners may ask you. It is not necessary for this to be said during "The Greeter Speech."
This section is a list of things that every greeter should say to every burner as they arrive, which is subject to change until approximately two weeks prior to the event. This is known as...
The Greeter Speech
1. Please park your car and return to the Ticket/Will Call table. (this is said through the car window, to the driver, as they pull up so we can keep traffic from piling up. You then point them in the direction of the "parking lot," which is the grass to either side of the gate).
*the rest of these are said at the Ticket/Will Call table
2. Welcome to Playa del Fuego (PDF) at the Vietnam Veterans' Motorcycle Club (VVMC)
3. Please stay away from the flagpole. This is sacred ground to the VVMC members where ashes of past VVMC members are spread.
4. Please stay to the right-hand side of the road.
5. The showers are the ONLY thing on the left side of the road that you are allowed to go near/into. it is the yellow and white striped building next to the pavilion.
6. Only use trash barrels that have bags in them, or the dumpster.
7. Leave no trace! Whatever goes in with you comes out with you, or is disposed of in the appropriate places I just listed. This is expected of all burners. Feel free to help out and pick up trash when you see it on the ground (hint, hint!)
8. There are port-a-potties to the right of the pavilion.
9. The pavilion, and the tables and grills in it, are there for us to use.
10. No open flames within 20 feet the tenting area (grills are allowed)! Fires are only permitted in the main burn and the burn barrels. Permission must be obtained for other things from the appropriate ranger.
11. You may ONLY drive your things into the VVMC if you are setting up a theme camp, are staying in your vehicle for the event (vans, RVs, etc), or have other large pieces of equipment (turntables, generators, etc). Otherwise, all items must be carried in on foot.
12. If you leave the VVMC, make sure to bring your ticket with you so no one charges you again for admission.
13. If you have any problems, find someone with a lanyard and/or a radio. They will either help you, or radio the correct person to help you.
14. There are no spectators at PDF. Everyone participates! (which could be as simple as sharing your food or picking up litter)
15. Please ask before you take any pictures of anyone.
16. Have fun! There will always be someone out here at the greeter station if you have any questions.
I know that seems like a lot, but it really goes fast once you get it down. And no, you don't have to memorize it or say it word for word. And yes, there will be a copy provided at the greeter station for you to use when on duty. And remember...BIG SMILES! We greeters are the first thing burners will encounter at PDF!
By the way, if you have an FRS radio, or more than one, please bring it/them. The greeters, DPW, and the rangers all have seperate designated channels where they can be contacted 24 hours a day during PDF. If you do not have a radio, they can be purchased at Best Buy, or stores like that. However, they are NOT necessary for greeting.
Thanks for doing your homework (ie. reading this page). You are now as well prepared as you can be for your role as a greeter at Playa del Fuego considering I have no map of the VVMC to provide at this time. A link to the map will be added later.
Love and Hugs,
Snuggles - your Greeter Coordinator
