Why Motorcycle Oil
Does your car turn 10,000 plus RPM, or cruise down the road at 4-5,000 RPM? Does it have an oil bath clutch? Does it lubricate the transmission with engine oil? Is it likely to sit unused in you garage for days or even weeks?
If your answer to even one of these questions is yes. Then you should consider using motorcycle oil in your car, not the other way around! Automotive oils (Even Racing Oils) do not provide the kind of protection your in these areas, even if it is changed more frequently than specified. Check out each of the following points provided by motorcycle 4 - stroke oils.
# A special friction control material is blended into the oil to allow proper functioning of oil bath clutch plates. Automotive oils, especially with time in use, may cause problems with clutch smoothness, or even slippage.
# Extra anti wear additive protects your engine during high RPM use that breaks down automotive oils more quickly. It also provides protection for your transmission that automotive oils cannot do.
# More anti-oxidant additive is added to prevent thermal oil breakdown due to higher heat levels produced in motorcycle clutch and transmissions.
# More detergents and disperants are used to keep deposits from ring and crankcase areas.
# Rust & corrosion inhibitors are used to protect you motorcycle while it sits in the garage or out in weather.
# Pour point depressants make your motorcycle start more easily, especially in cold weather. Motorcycle starters and batteries are smaller in proportion to engine size than automobile batteries, and have to turn some transmission parts too.
# Special acid inhibitors are used in greater amounts to fight acid build up from less use & short trip.
So go to your local motorcycle shop to buy motorcycle oil, Not to Auto Zone or Car Quest!
Be sure to ask for one of the best oils such as Bel-Ray, Klotz, Maxima or Ams Oil!
Also use the manufactures recommended weight. Too heavy oil can do as much harm as too light an oil!
